I was told only the 911 family gets the RS badge.
But then again maybe they will screw up like the R badge on the 987 Cayman. *chokes*

AP did say in interview at beginning of GT4 is would not get RS badge, so maybe the GT4 R will be the badge, as the R was established before - or maybe it will just be the "R" - and there will be no more "GT" Caymans!

IMHO Porsche calling it a R would bring back memories of the 987 R which really failed to live up to the advertised track hype with the issues people experienced.

what issues ?, I have had 2 R's and run one as a daily along side my GT4, one of Porsche best drivers cars imo, def more feelsome than a GT4 also and an engine which is nicer to goto red line.

Pretty perfect car the Cayman R.

Not saying anything against it not driving. But I know of too many with PDKs that overheated on track; at 100+ degrees OAT, at high altitude when using SC in sport plus mode - some PCA regions actually commented on this at events. In addition cooling to the rear brakes was virtually non existent.

Of course, he also said 'flappy paddles are for grandmothers' and we all know how that turned out! A bunch of grandma's in 991 GT3's and GT3RS's!

AP also said they couldn't offer PDK and manual at the same time for the GT3. Reality is that AP won't say anything at the time to lessen demand.

PDK is not really for the R imo and I have never had rear brake issue, that again is people keeping PSM on all the time so the rears heat up as PSM on is NOT for track !!!

The PSM could not be shut off in these cars even when you hit the button. You had to do a rewire to shut it off completely.

Your preference for manual is a different story as well since the comparison here is for the RS which if it comes will only be with a PDK.

I doubt a GT4 will have PDk, but then no one knows that, we don't even know the engine and it could be 2 years away. or imo never( not an RS anyway)
while PSM off is not really off fully you can drive round it by being smoother, we all tracked our Spyders ok with little or no hassle on here. I used to always get 1 corner where it would cut in on any track, but as I said not really an issue.

nothing new can match the feel of the R or 987.2 Spyder and nothing will ever be as light again.

this looks as much fun as anything in fact, if not more fun due to being open roof.

Don't use that video! I totally biffed the sync on it! Lol!

Issues with the caymanR and 987.2 spyder were:
Overheat. Even with a manual, oil temps would run very high. I upgraded to a 3rd radiator that was standard on pdk and the problem was solved.
Brakes too small. Front and rear brakes would boil over at a track like laguna seca if you are running R comps. I never had an issue though because I had big pccb calipers running iron rotors.

Agreed Joe. The R had problems without mods and even then they wouldn't go away completely. PDK versions were worse than manual.

@mrd_spy

The GT4 is already available with a PDK; its called GT4 Clubsport.

My Spyder runs the 6 pot calipers also, it's very over braked, in the UK we don't tend to over heat and It's open pit lane so no bigs stints out on track, 4 or 5 laps, come in rest 30 mins 4 or 5 laps.

you guys tend to do many laps in one go.

thing is NONE of these cars are real race cars, look at the work every one is doing to the GT4, spending £1000's to battle understeer and tyre wear, YOU have spent more on the GT4 than the Spyder ;-) lol

here in the UK one guy has just gone for the Manthey CS 3 ways on his road going GT4, I went in that at the weekend and zero dive !!! but BIG ££££

I still have my Spyder, but run the R as a daily and my GT4 also, SPyder is now fun only road use, R is my daily, and the GT4 now modded with some choice parts is the hooning car and track use.

BUT nothing out the box ever works ......
