GT4 RS in the works? Rumors of a 4.0...

based on Porsche using the detuned 991S in the current GT4/Spyder to help keep the price down, it isn't a huge leap to guess (yes this is a guess) they will do the same for 982- ie detune another engine. NA Engines we are somewhat aware of that could be used in various states of tune:-
3.8 from GT4/Spyder/991.1S/991.2GTS
3.8 from 991.1GT3
4.0 from 991RS
4.0 from RSR (rumoured for 991.2 GT3)
3.8 from 991.1 GT3 has been a somewhat problematic engine and expensive to produce- probably not a good idea.
I would love to see the 3.8 in 991.2GTS tune with the power kit being made available for current GT4/Spyder. Definitely a possibility? But dunno if there is enough torque to keep it ahead of the upcoming 982GTS- esp as the 982S already matches the GT4 when on same rubber.
Easier to get torque from displacement so I think the more likely scenario is to detune the 4.0 from the RS. This gives the GT4/Spyder greater GT credibility- which the previous version lacked in the engine department and with PDK-S, it will be the typical kind of unobtanium that Porsche offers to make us buy new cars and justify any RS moniker.
While costwise a detuned RSR 4.0 could be very efficient to make, IMHO that would put the GT4/Spyder too close to 991.2 GT3. Just like 982 vs 991.2, I'd expect Porsche to have different engines in these cars to help distinguish them and justify the various price points.
whatever it is... expect it to make you want it... want it bad

.2 GTS uses the 3.0 turbo and it will not fit in the GT4.
3.8 turbo exists in the Turbo models. And I'm quite sure that one will not fit either.

Another possibility that I didn't comment on is the updated 2.5 flat 4 turbo as seen in the 982S (and expected in the 982GTS)... but again, that doesn't seem to accord with suggestions that the next engine will remain NA. Having said that, not putting a flat 4 turbo in the GT4/Spyder may have some real fallout for 982 base/S owners as their powerplants have no GT hero thereby relegating 718 owners to a somewhat ordinary pedigree within the brand.

OK from another angle and for what it's worth (not much) I spoke to my SA about giving them a deposit for the rumored GT4RS. He refused to take the deposit and stated his dealership will not take a deposit until they have a confirmed allocation.
OK that is all well and good but then he added that not all dealerships work this way and in fact some dealers will take a deposit on future vehicles whether or not they have an allocation.
He then added that he has SA friends at some of those dealerships and they have told him that they have accepted deposits on the GT4RS as an agreed upon price of $75,000 over MSRP.
I'd be willing pay over MSRP but not that much.

GT3 RSs could be had for less than that in California, so not sure why anyone would agree to pay that now, on a car that may not even come and has no known specification. Sounds like boasting to me, but who knows!

Yep, $75K over MSRP sounds ludicrous to me but I'm sure someone out there is willing to pay that. If multiple folks are willing to pay that (I'm thinking 918, 911R owners/collectors) dealership will be willing to take it and it will be a very long time before prices come down to something I AM willing to pay. By then, allotments will most likely be gone.

From the Pistonheads article: (http://www.pistonheads.com/news/ph-g...-new-gt3/35880
"Last year's Cup car had a Mezger engine but now we are at full strategy fulfilment and have all our motorsport engines on one platform, even the new RSR."
So GT4 clubsport part of the same strategy? Seems likely.
What does this mean for the base GT4? Will there be one in the next gen? Plenty of talk about the RS, but none about the base GT4.
