The sharkwerks mod of 3rd/4th/5th really is becoming quite appealing.

There is a fix but out of pocket. Still wondering if only a certain production date run. Best advise "Every GT4 owner needs track time to break third gear before the warranty expires."

if it affected all gt4s you would think it would have turned up in testing . look at all the road tests that were done to hype the car and not one mention of a trans problem? a lot of the publications beat the sh-t out of the car! carl

Supposedly the delay in getting new transmissions has been because Porsche identified the quality issue with the supplier and the new ones have the issue addressed.

Not really... with the stock 2nd gear ratio still in place, the minimal 2-3 ratio spread is still problematic.

But then again, I know of a ring/pinion combo for the GT4 currently in testing that would make a gearset swap moot.

There is also a rear suspension setup in development looking VERY interesting for the rear camber issues, completely negating them.

I hope so.

If memory serves, it's an Audi box made by Getrag, and the electron-beam welding of the 3rd gear on it's shaft is the culprit - the weld fails, and the gear simply spins on the shaft. It's a rather easy fix to address, by using a better welding method, or re-design the interface to be keyed or splined - this was likely a cost-saving measure. The 3rd gear and it's shaft is not used for any other ratios... so it is its own standalone part, and could easily be remedied by designing/manufacturing a different 3rd gear/shaft drop-in replacement part.

For the data mongers, my car was manufactured in March 2016, has 10500 miles, and is stock with OEM everything and street tires.

I'll know more on Monday after dealers and PCNA open up for business, and will keep everyone up to date on progress.

Another one blew... We were just talking about it this am and sure enough... 20 minutes later, I don't have third gear now... For those of you that have been waiting for your transmission, did they provide you with a loaner?

No flame, but do you really think this would be publicized since Porsche was present at every one of those tests, supplied the cars as well as a support team with parts?

My dealer's loaner fleet is only Cayennes, Macans, and Panameras. I took a Cayenne.

yes i do, all the press reported the corvette failure as LS with Chevy's factory support there. Also several press reports of intermediate shaft failures in the 996s during long term tests.
