This is how everyone ships transmissions here. Big coolers! Perfect fit, durable.

You are the reason I'm getting aroused on rennlist, of all websites.

Oh the insanity.... Porsche, please....stop this. Come down from your office to the shipping dock when these damaged gearboxes are returned and look. Then, take some action to remedy this stupidity. You can't ship dense metal objects in cardboard boxes with light padding. I'm guessing these boxes being used come to them from Getrag sitting on a pallet, wrapped and banded.

I recall talk of creating a database of GT4 transmission failures but I haven't seen it or know whether it exists.

Does anyone have any reasonably accurate data about the number of North American GT4s with failed transmissions? How about ROW GT4s?

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to have dinner with a very senior executive of PCNA and upon ending he offered to help me in any way he could (whatever that means).

With real data about the number of failures, particularly since I have a May 2016 build, I would be glad to reach out and make sure the most senior execs at PCNA are aware of this issue.

What is most troubling, from reading this thread, is that the failure feels like a ticking time bomb that's almost bound to go off at some time. As we know, timing in life is everything, and the bomb going off at the wrong time could end in tragedy well beyond a car being out of commission for extended periods.

Let's harness the power of RL and make sure PCNA is well aware of the issue.

Thanks. I almost always view RL on iOS apps, so stickies are less apparent, but I found it.

Looks like about 20 have been reported as of today (020817), which means there must be many, many more.

Hope it's a different ratio than the German one. The German one is way too short.

I just swapped a 2016 Macan loaner for a 718 Boxster. Nice to be back in a sports car, almost like the one I bought, but not nearly the same monster.

I think that anyone dealing with this BS should be given a PEC voucher to drive a GT4 and others. I paid for the Porsche experience. This is not what I expected.

Since we're on the subject of gearing, this page is a handy resource for looking at the impact of changing tires, gears, and final drives on the top speed of each gear. The OEM setup is displayed to start.

I vote for that as long as it includes transportation to and from as well as hospitality to make it fair to those that don't have it in their backyard.

After posting my last message just hours before, I got a call from my dealer today. Seems that my transmission has arrived, it's being installed, and dealer hopes that I have it back by the weekend.

If so, that would make it a total of 24 days in the shop. Seems like they are getting better.

Too soon to sign up for the next track day?
