Personally I think the Boxster guys are getting the better end of the deal at the moment- the Boxster likely costs Porsche more to make than the Cayman (as is normal for convertibles) yet costs less to buy. I'd rather have the status quo if I was in the market, but that's just me. At the end of the day even in competition 10 hp is going to decide the outcome so rarely that it's hard for me to get worked up about...

Putting a set of those gt4 air scoops for $500 on a Spyder should fix that lost 10hp feeling.. And to me they look cool as well. As soon as someone makes a set without "gt4" etched into them, I'm purchasing.

was thinking about embossing 3.8 on them but I decided not to so that the buyer can decide what they want to do

With the lighter wheels, tires, and brakes you won't miss the 10hp compared to the GT4...

....and I don't believe this detune stuff anyway. The scoops would be for looks to add some girth to the car and make it look more race car...

Yea, my comment is tongue in cheek. I'm not an ocd numbers guy who worries about this stuff. if a car makes the right sound, looks right; steers and shifts well, to me that feels like infinity horsepower. The Spyder ticks every single childhood dream box, I cant think of a more perfect combo of attributes than what this machine has for the Sunday driver like me...

Hey guys -- woke up this morning and found this short review on Pistonheads. Now it's getting exciting -- enjoy!
"Now that I've had a blast in the new Spyder at PEC yesterday, I can't wait to get my hands on mine. As a previous Spyder owner covering 11,000 miles in 3 years and a current 981 S owner, I'm in a good position to leave some feedback.
Performance is in a completely different league to old Spyder and 981 S. The engine spins freely to 7,500 RPM and you notice the extra torque and power as soon as you give it half throttle. Up the main straight of the new handling circuit a 991 GTS with PDK did not increase the gap at any point. Very impressive and sounds awesome in sport plus.
Brakes are fantastic and pedal feel is excellent. Couldn't fault them and glad I didn't commit the extra money for ceramics.
The new steering set up feels much more direct than my current 981 S and I couldn't fault it for feel. In my experience I can't say that the old Spyder offers anything extra in feedback.
Ride quality was better than my 981 S which also has 20" alloys.
I found that the confidence the new Spyder inspires enabled me to put it anywhere I wanted on the track, with the same planted feel and quick turn in that the old Spyder provided. The back end is very playful and controllable. It felt a big step up from my current car. The new smaller steering wheel and gear lever did help improve the enjoyment of feeling that I was involved in the experience.
The only negative I could find was that it looked very plain and unispiring in silver metallic with silver wheels. Having now seen the Spyder in the flesh in silver, white metallic and yellow, I'd say it was very colour sensitive. I'm very happy that I've plumped for white (non metallic) with black wheels.
Only a couple of months to go until mine arrives."

With aftermarket intake manifold (hello IPD), throttle body and exhaust you will get back to the 400HP of the S engine, unless Porsche really messed with the ECU files. Not sure it's worth the expense, especially if you are not tracking/xcrossing the car.
Or one could regear, but that is definitely going to be expensive.
Me, I am going to drive it awhile first, the only thing I might change will be tires depending on what it comes with…I am hoping for Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

Meh, I don't put any stock in the color opinion of others. You order what speaks to you! I love my GT silver car with black interior (see avatar) and would have easily chosen it again on the Spyder especially with the classic interior pkg, except can't have 2 silver cars. Yours will look awesome -- don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. I'm just happy the guy who posted that review has plenty of experience to compare the 987 Spyder and the 981 Boxster S!!!! Remember back when initial reviews were somewhat mixed......? I think it is going to be a great car, and a classic like it's predecessor!

I'm planning on my get silver getting plasti-dipping wheels either flat black, or having them painted gloss red like my avatar pic gt3... I don't want to pay Porsche $1000 for gloss black which I don't like

Is it expensive to plasti dip wheels? I didn't want the black wheels either, just not to my taste.
