I made the same move and sold my 991 GT3 and waiting on the Spyder. Wile the GT3 is an amazing car I was a bit disappointed driving on the street. Unless you are wide open it would drive like any other 911 on the street. Any comments with the gearing. Everyone comments on them being too tall.

Was at Canepa cars and coffee today.. (Google it, ridiculous car event)... There were two GT4's there and there were as many people crowding around those as the LaFerrari parked next to them. Looks absolutely gorgeous and powerful and so "race car"... With the roof like our Spyders?... I can't even imagine.

Photo is taken Nant Gwynant Valley in North Wales during a 250 mile thrash around epic back roads yesterday.
I swapped my 991 GT3 for the Spyder as whilst the GT3 was a weapon on track it really wasn't much fun on the road. (Photo earlier in thread).
I've owned some great cars but I'd say the Boxster is the most entertaining so far.
The handling is superb - the car feels much lighter than 1300kg and coupled with similar torque figures to the GT3 it just flies, even keeping revs below 6k to bed the engine in gently.
The noise is splendid and the gearbox a joy - quality of fit and finish better than 911.
Roof noise is fine upto circa 100 mph and then would be intrusive on a longer trip at high speed.
Feel free to ask questions on specifics I've not covered. I'm on 600 miles of back roads after two days and can't wait to get back in.
I think you are all going to be grinning from ear to ear when yours arrive. In my view the best sports car in the world (though not the best supercar)

Great write up; thanks
Could you share your thoughts on the rather "tall" gearing for the MT
Thanks

Despite most journalists complaining about the gearing I certainly don't have a problem with it.
How often do you spend your day bouncing off the rev limiter (unless on track)? For road use the ratios work well, particularly given how much torque there is mid range. Shifting at 6k gives plenty of scope for stirring the box - and you'll want to as its a joy to use.

And I agree with you that I'm not intending to run to redline on the street so the gear ratios should be fine.

I expect it wouldn't be that close. The GT4 chassis is much stiffer and the wheels and tires alone would probably be worth a couple seconds on a big track.
