So I have watched two videos, looked at the configurator and one thing that I have noticed there are LOTS of Spyder badges on this car. I do like the one in the gauge cluster and I'm sure in the NAV screen there will be one too...door sills, headrests and two where the top attaches as well.

Just personal preference for me... only a street driver here. Like you, a fan of both transmissions. I owned manuals all my life - including my Cayman S - and preferred them. I first drove a pdk (spyder actually) at the Porsche Roadshow and was smitten. I ordered pdk on my 991-50 and they improved on perfection, and don't want to switch back over. Guess I prefer the flappy paddles over the fancy foot work.

Love it and can't imagine ever parting with it. The style and design (wheels, interior, etc) drew me to it, growing up in the '80's always wanting a 911. And the 991 platform is exceptional. It's more "GT" than the 997's, but that's what I was looking for.

Looks great. It looks very similar to the 987 Spyder which is great. That is a hefty price tag though.
Not that my 987 Spyder is going anywhere, but 987 Sypder prices may not go down at all that much. I spec'd one out on the configurator close to my Spyder options.....It was $93,000.....lol

That said there is always something endearing about a car that is paid off and under warranty till 2021.

for me personally, I think the BASE Boxster with;
- x73
- sport exhaust
- sport chrono
- Sport design exterior & steering wheel
- 19" wheels
- sport plus seats
- PTV
a better package for street use. The Spyder has the engine, but it's still a street use car and $20k difference to the above spec BASE is a lot of difference.
The bespoke nature of the GT4 suspension/bakes really elevates the Cayman to something special. The extra 10mm drop does ruin some of the street use. But as a package and GT motorsport heritage/use it leans to track use. Desirable, even though it's not as practical.
An engine has low priority for a street use car so the Spyder has the styling but not enough that saving $20k wouldn't solve (nicer set of wheels or brakes).

You know, it's a BEAUTIFUL car and well done to Porsche for producing it. But... for me the lines don't "line up" (literally). What I love about the .2 is the visual line up from the domes, along the top of the rake-backed windows, to the top of the windshield. They flow. In the 981, the windshield top is above the line of sight back to the domes, and sadly, it has the standard rounded windows of the Boxster. And where's all the red bits?
And the HP increase? Yes - nice for sure, but I come from the world of a 997.1 Twin Turbo with lots of luxury, lots of power, and I switched to the purity and the adequate amount of power in the .2.
So the 981 is a super-nice car, but not the pure design piece of the .2. And my prediction was spot on for the manual hinged top. I can see the reasoning behind that but it chops up the design.
Those of you getting of one here, please post as soon as you can find a spare minute when you are not ripping up the miles! Enjoy!![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)

I always found the 987 Spyder’s window a bit jarring. It just looks like they took it from some other car and stuck it on. In this respect, I like the 981 version better.
I find the 981 aero bits too overstyled and visually distracting. Especially in white, the rear diffuser and that giant front bumper just look too complicated. And that multicolored “classic” interior seems oddly inappropriate for something marketeers are billing as a pure roadster.
