I think the 981 Spyder has been watered down, but I do like the HP increase. The new top while easier to use loses the simple form of the previous generation and looks like one top over another. The rear hook points are not as dramatic as the 987. Like others have mentioned, most of the 987 spyder owners including myself like to run the sunshade without the back window for a very unique look.

So it would appear that the car DOESN't come with the Carrera S brakes as it says 340mm 6 piston brakes from the Carrera. Isn't this the same brakes as a standard Cayman S? Also, it doesn't come standard with the LWB. The weight of the vehicle is 2899lbs, and that would be without radio and air conditioning but also without LWB.

Cayman S brakes are 4 piston, not 6 piston.

I think they are both beautiful.

I wish Porsche which is so fond of the 100 page option book would have allowed for the bigger brakes, PDK etc on the Spyder's first launch ( perhaps later) but don't come back and reply it is not what the car is about...well they will let you order Burmeister & Navigation...plus full leather,

Looks like those wheels are 20 and not offered in black or platinum (yet) Wonder why Porsche feels 20's are the way to go on this?

Very good to see Porsche continuing the tradition, but I'll be removing my name from the "list" at my local dealership and keeping my 987.2. It's a good incremental step and keeps with the spirit of the original. Certain to catch the ire of many here, the lack of PDK is a deal breaker for me.

Curious as to why no PDK is a deal breaker for some of you. I'm a fan of both transmissions for different reasons. I like manual better for the street and PdK for the track. I'm good with either. Given the choice I would pick manual over pdk on the GT4

rear comparison. As you can see on the side rear profile, the 987 spyder has a specific cut side window which follows the slanted roofline. Porsche did not integrate the side window on the 981 at all.

You know, it's a BEAUTIFUL car and well done to Porsche for producing it. But... for me the lines don't "line up" (literally). What I love about the .2 is the visual line up from the domes, along the top of the rake-backed windows, to the top of the windshield. They flow. In the 981, the windshield top is above the line of sight back to the domes, and sadly, it has the standard rounded windows of the Boxster. And where's all the red bits? And the HP increase? Yes - nice for sure, but I come from the world of a 997.1 Twin Turbo with lots of luxury, lots of power, and I switched to the purity and the adequate amount of power in the .2.
So the 981 is a super-nice car, but not the pure design piece of the .2. And my prediction was spot on for the manual hinged top. I can see the reasoning behind that but it chops up the design.
Those of you getting of one here, please post as soon as you can find a spare minute when you are not ripping up the miles! Enjoy!

I see you have a 50th 911. How do you like it as I am considering one.

For me it's a physical issue due to a combat injury I sustained. At some point I will probably have to relinquish my 951 as my 993 was sold last week. So I will only get dual clutch in any car I purchase going forward.

Very good points.

Interesting that the new Boxster Spyder is "more" Boxster than Spyder yet they dropped Boxster on the badging.
