Thanks , gee that seems pretty significant to say the least.
Mueller resigning a few days ago, and now this. Makes me think mueller is one of those guys probably being investigated. VW and Porsche aren’t out of the woods yet in regards to the emission scandal.
Can the engine bay be modified to accommodate? One theory I have is, if they are able to make changes to the engine bay and the turbo plumbing (and whatever else), they may be considering dumping turbo-4 for the entire Boxster/Cayman range. Turbo-4 may have favorable tax implications (less cylinder count and capacity) in countries like China; but, has negative marketing implications in the US (and possibly EU/UK). So, this Spyder proto could be testing a turbo-6 for rest of the range? If so, they could have different engine configurations for respective markets (though not ideal for a number of reasons)..
What if they are testing the potential replacement in the sense that Porsche went "let's try to capture the 718 4 cylinder magic from 40 years ago", found out that it wasn't working, and they are going back to the 6 cylinder. Or even the 718 line was a one off production and they will move back to 6 cylinder eventually? Seems unlikely, but just thinking out loud. They obviously don't need to run a 4 cylinder in the Cayman (other than maybe packaging) because the 911 is F6T and they sell far more of those than Caymans. If it was a fleet emissions thing, I'd think they'd figure it out for their volume seller first rather than a car they sell far fewer of.
As many CS racers have said, heat is already an issue on the N/A so sticking multiple turbos in there and racing them is exceptionally difficult.

The engine bay cannot be modified to fit the long 3.0L turbo. All the tubs will be the same off the assembly line.
Turbos are here to stay. Perhaps after 2020 we will no longer see NA engines in the motorsport cars.... But for now, you will have the 991.2RS and the 718GT4 with NA motors.
At the risk of sounding totally arrogant, this is the last time I'll say this: Next GT4 will be NA...not sure which NA, just NA and no turbo. So how about we stop pissin' in the wind here and give the topic a rest.
No idea about Spyder engine (but to me it seems illogical for it not to be the same, but logic doesn't always prevail).
No offence but it does come off as arrogant... all anyone is asking is point to how this is a known fact given the evidence to support the turbo predictions. I don't think that is too much to ask when such a confident statement is made.
.........
That being said, Porsche could very well leave the boxster GTS motor in the Spyder.... i have mentioned that before.
Hope not. This prototype actually sounds better than the GTS. The GTS is just plain awful-sounding. If it is turbo, they have made it better; but, if it is NA, they have made it worse!!

Oh yeah, the 718 of the past! I forgot about Porsche's elaborate scheme of associating 982 to 718 of yore. You are right; turbo-4 isn't going anywhere! Probably one more generation, after which they might switch to hybrid/electric anyway!

1. Guys who are trying to speculate based on sight and sound - these people admittedly are guessing.
2. Guys who are claiming it will be a certain thing - these people are providing nothing to substantiate their claim.

The best part will be the "I told you so's" that will follow the announcement of the car lol

Remember the old saying....I could tell you, but then I'd have to kill you. :-) Same applies here.
