718 GT4?
#7471
Wow...LMAO...years of commiserating on this thread and we get...another 981-ish GT4? I mean...it's not bad by any means. It's just the raw energy put into the...I think I'm reading this right...498 pages of posts...and this is what is released? Not saying Porsche was basing their car design around an internet thread...but...I mean...well...?
I kinda like the exhausts in the back. Other than that and the numbers...which are...well...sort of the same after a little math (HP+Weight+everything else is the same-ish)...more...???? Is "same-ish" a word?
I guess now more than ever in the past couple years I am REALLY happy to own a 981 GT4. I love Porsche and the machines they make. I post this mostly because of all the madness in this thread for so many years and it's basically the same car. Which is kinda hilarious taken into the context of this thread.

Burning Brakes
I won't go through the 499 pages to find it, but I am a little happy that my predictions of cylinder deactivation (based on the "Autobahn queue"-sound clip maybe a year ago) turned out to be true

Porsche definitely learned from the demand and the aftermarket pricing of the first GT4, heh. That is a significant price bump... 17-18% in three years is no joke.
I'd been putting off certain track modifications for my car in anticipation of the details for the new GT4 to see whether it was worth a trade in... But while it would be nice to get certain technology updates, ~$35K for just ~30 more hp, and a 200 rpm higher redline is gonna be tough for me to justify. Not to mention weight gains of apparently nearly 10%? I don't doubt it's still a faster car, but... yeah, I think it's time to start modding.

GTS turbo vs. GT4 will never feel the same in engine and suspension department.
Stay tuned for PDK before production is over.

I'll wait to see if they offer it up with a PDK option in late 2020 and then an aftermarket solution to the exhaust along with headers. Is the new engine was a 4.0L version of the 981 GT4 engine?

We assumed as such however Porsche kept saying "no".
Porsche claims the engine would be "new".
So as it stands, it is supposedly the 3.0L carrera motor with the turbos deleted and then stroked to 4.0L
So it is "kinda" new-ish.
I like the idea.
Lets see if it delivers or can be tuned.

Emissions control is a very big theme here.
And $13,000 more for 29 horsepower.
Same torque and same gearing
Yawn.

EDIT: Just looked it up. Looks like it was a $14,855 increase. ($85,595 -> $100,450, both prices including destination).

Base price of my USA 981 GT4 was $84k meaning that is a 19% increase in price for the same Torque in the new, heavier car.
The 'Ring was re-paved in sections, that is now naturally faster for all cars which is why Porsche marketing machine quotes those figures - to wow and stun you.
Statistics do not lie, but....

They just need to homologate the new engine. The gearbox is already homologated in the Cayman, Cayman S, and the GTS. So for racing they can now use this new engine. I expect it is also a simple swap to change this engine into the 718 race cars.
