Actually, this motor has much more left on the table than the 981 version, but any mods will have to include uncorking the limitations in the ECU...

Hmm:

1. Cylinder deactivation, yuck! Hopefully it can be turned off easily or it will sound like a 4 banger with one bank deactivated.
2. Club sport package listed but not on configurator.. maybe coming later? This would be really nice.
3. Bose now an option - needs it to actually hear the radio
4. Somebody is going to make a killing on a center bypass that gets rid of the particulate filters/center muffler.
5. Similarly equipped, 23% more than my 981. Too close in price to a GT3 in my opinion, too bad not all of us could get a GT3 allocation.
6. Same gearing as 981, ugh
7. Gold wheels a nice option
8. More downforce nice
9. Doubt these will be hard to get with the big price increase and no PDK.

718 GTS is 309ft/lbs when equipped with the manual trans. (317ft/lbs PDK)

Edit, realized you meant 911 GTS. The mid engine trans and rear engine trans are completely different.

Isn't the GT3 base 143k? Seems like plenty of room to me. Sure with the 3 you get 9k RPM but that is why it is more. I think a 125k RS would be a fantastic track car and there are some who would prefer it due to mid-engine. If there is a niche of people with money to spend, Porsche has a way of finding them and extracting said money

I didn't see a PTS option on the configurator. Nor Lava Orange. I hate that and love that at the same time. Those with a 981 PTS will be happy but it means I probably won't be upgrading anymore.

That being said if i did upgrade i always thought Miami Blue would be the clear winner. Then i configured this:

OMG.

wow. just wow.

I'm happy it has the 4.0 but not pleased it's been restricted to put out less hp/tq than a NA 3.8 911S. They could have dropped in the '15 3.8 engine and put out more hp/tq with 430/325. So why go to the trouble and make a 4.0 only to neuter it?

Still has long gearing. Pricing has really jumped, not the great deal the original GT4 was. Looks good, Spyder looks great. While I'm at the top spot on my dealer list I don't see any reason to be getting one.

Different trans from the rear engine 911, the max torque for the mid engine trans is 309 ft/lbs. (also why the 718GTS manual is also limited to 309 ft/lbs. where the PDK GTS is 317 ft/lbs.)

I think that my Sapphire Blue just became a PTS option.
Oh wait . . .

IIRC the 718 MT is only rated to 310# torque if it is the same transmission.

It crashed yesterday as well. There must be a lot of excitement for the GT4. Well done Porsche!

Thanks for the configurator link.

Initially I was very excited with the announcement, but after playing around on the configurator and reading the comments here I’m significantly let down.

1) First, the colors are TERRIBLE! No Carmine Red and no Sapphire Blue which were going to be my top two choices. Now what am I supposed to pick? Miami Blue I guess, but my wife has said several times she hates it.......can’t wait for that discussion.

2) Second, not fixing the long gear ratios due to “emissions” is a terrible excuse to keep this car neutered.

3) I was only excited for the 4.0 to get the extra torque and am extremely disappointed it has the SAME torque as previous model....snore. I didn’t expect a detuned GT3 motor, but was hoping for much more than this. Seems like Porsche just made a 4.0 for marketing purposes, but it has no guts.

4) Does anyone know if the strut tower issue has been addressed???

5) If the strut towers are the same as the 981 or 991.2 this massive MSRP increase plus my dealers $10K ADM makes me seriously considering a used 991.2 GT3 for a bit more or a used 981 GT4 to save some money.

I was so hyped for this car, and can’t belive I waited years for this only to be more interested in used cars now

Porsche really screwed this up, I would have been happy to pay significantly more for this model with the same colors as every other car they make, slightly more torque, better gear ratios and addressing the strut tower issue. But as it stands it appears like none of those were addressed. It’s like a repeat of the 981 version but costing significantly more.
