I think July 2018 is perfect cause it's my wife's and my birthday month. That will keep her happy as it's her birthday time and she would be more lenient in how I spec out my car :P so July 2018 please!!!

IMO I think Porsche will follow more or less the same timeline as on the 981????......actually if its going to be a 2019 model they are late compared to the 981, by this time in 2015 I was configuring mine and received it in November.
Could it be it gets bumped as a 2020 model or mid year model???? Maybe they are getting better at moving from testing to production in less time? We will see...

Thanks Whoopsy for the rebus

7.18 it's just after Goodwood FOS, speedster and spyder debut at FOS, GT4 just some days later

Maybe 7:18 is the ring time? If the driver is smoking dope.

I wouldn't count on any time within 2018 for the twins. Still hearing March 2019 at the Geneva Autoshow... not sure on the race version.

That would be 22 sec faster than the last GT4 and just 5 sec slower than GT3...

Would it really be that surprising considering the .2 beat the .1 by 12+ seconds even though on paper they are similar? Put some Cup 2 tires on it, and it's entirely possible. Especially if they get 330 torque out of it (I know the GT3 is rated at 339, but it puts down 330 at the wheels). The question is, would Porsche officially claim that time or sandbag it so it looks better for GT3 owners?

I think it's possible, maybe even likely (but not for a driver smoking dope ). Also, the GT3 time of just under 7:13 is with the PDK version (Manual version is 3 sec slower). So, if GT4 is manual only (and PDK for RS), then it would put it just 2 sec slower than Manual GT3.

Another note - I think the GT3 Ring time is with standard N1 Cup 2's (unlike the .2 RS that used R tires). So, I'm wondering if the 7:18 time for the GT4 would be with R tires or not (I'm thinking so to achieve a 22 sec improvement with just 35hp and a little torque more)

According to Michelin, the next-gen Cup 2 tires are not currently In the pipeline for the GT4. That may be rears only, since fronts are same as GT3, but I am only aware for sure that next-gen Cup 2s were on the GT3 RS for its recent Ring time, and those sizes are unique to the RS. If no next-gen Cup 2 for GT4, that would ensure GT3 owner protective Ring times for the GT4.

Man, I think this is the funniest part of all this thread… Whoopsy is a bit like a Sphynx, and we’re all trying to get the hidden message(s) from his cryptic posts.

Look at what we can do with his last one:“Actually no, I did a mixture of about 718 drugs before I can even think of something like that.”

a) – “Mixture of… 718” = 18/7; “before I can etc.” = before I thought (actually before everyone thought). So the next GT4 will be launched in July 18, at, for example, Le Mans Classic. A nice appropriate date/ event, as a 718 won Le Mans back in 1958, 60 years ago;

b) – "Mixture of… 718” = the GT4 and the Spyder will be launched at the same time. “Before I can even think of something like that” = Before iCan Event. There’s a so called iCan show in Toronto in September 2018 (yes, I checked that). So the two models will be launched at the end of August / beginning of September this year;

c) – The whole sentence means the car is strictly derived from the 718, and that Whoopsy could not even think about this option. In other words, the car is finally getting a flat-4 turbo. Or ‘twin’ turbo…, as Whoopsy used the word ‘twin’ in 2 of his previous posts… like in this one: “9k redline. More than the regular twins with manual box”. ‘Regular twins’ does not necessarily mean GT4 & Spyder…

d) – You mix the 3 points above…

Funny, isn’t it ?!

And no, I don't smoke 420...

When the rumors started circulating that a new record is in the books for the new gen .2 GT3 and RS,I have said most of that time is in the tire improvements. Many think that couldn't be the case. Well...there are small little improvements everywhere,although most of that difference between the 1 and 2 is in the tires I'm afraid...
Some people do not realize that no matter how much power and suspension witchcraft you do,it all comes down to those 4 patches of rubber touching the road. The same goes in all cars : it amazes me people complain their AC is not strong enough or their massage seats don't work but they are running on slicks(and by slicks I don't mean the racing type).

I don't think new R's were used in GT3 lap, just RS. And the R tires are not (yet?) available in the GT3 sizes. The N1 on the .2 GT3 is an improvement over the N0 on the .1 GT3, but not to the extent that "most" of the improvement (12 sec) is due to tires. Maybe nearly half though...

Me think, "mixture of 718" = 187 as in 187mph is the top speed (vs 183 for the 981 GT4).
