Risking getting bash at the peak of this thread ....I'm going to omit the GT4RS info here and just stick to the GT4....didn't happen in 981 and they had the window to upgrade the engine for an RS using the 9A1, which by the way, I think they will use it again (there's your bespoke engine which is not used on any other PAG product). They need to balance a lot of things with a product: Performance, Pricing, Hierarchy while not cannibalizing your current offerings.... Unless the RS is a minimal performance improvement over the GT4....which will be a cash cow for Porsche. just my 0.02 cents here

Wow...if this turns out to be an intentionally piece of code that Rennlist/zorgg deciphered, I don't know what to say. Gotta love RL.

I’m in the camp that thinks it’s a variation on the old 3.8, maybe punched to 4l. And the RS is a big HP turbo.

I think Whoopsy already said RS is 9k rpm, so no Turbo

I'm sure if an Cayman RS was produce it wouldn't be turbo...for the same reason(s) it wouldn't use the GT3 engine....which is the one that goes up to 9K rpms.
I really hope I'm wrong, as I would go for an RS in a heartbeat, but PAG launching a GT4RS is a very , VERY long shot....unless it's just a badge and some aero and 10-15 more Hp....ohhh, forgot, and some MPSC2 Rs.

I really wish we had a better idea of when the GT4 was dropping as I really want a GT car for this year. I don’t want to buy one if the 718 GT4 could be announced at anytime and delivered ~5 months later. If It gets announced in early 2019, I would buy a 981 GT4 to hold me over

I would guess an announcement this fall at the earliest with deliveries mid-late spring of 2019 as a MY2020.

Stop waiting and just enjoy yourself.

I bet if you find a good private party car that has been sitting around you won't lose that much money. But you never know. The economy could tank I guess.

The current gt4 is so good imo the new one will have to be a lot better to be compelling.

With that said I'm second on a list at msrp. ahahah.

And whoopsy is my hero.

Youll get your new GT4 at MSRP but they will totally fleece you on your GT4 trade. You're going to get screwed by the dealer somewhere!

Reading this thread has been great! Very appreciative. Definitely would not want you to break any rules, I do have a question for you though. The info you were able to tell us before you went to Weissach - has anything changed since your trip or does everything still stand?

Hopefully this is OK to say as you delivered this info before you even went . Thanks again

I would look for the launch of the GT4 and Spyder at LA in November w/ web specials in Oct if the 992 is actually going to debut at Paris. I think the old 3.8 brought to 400 HP will power these cars but may come w/ particulate filters. If this successful then this engine may return to the Boxster/Cayman line up for some markets where the flat four turbo has diminished the appeal, and sales, of these now rather expensive cars. Expect MT only for the GT4 but both PDK and MT would be a smart move for Porsche if they have any interest in increasing sales volume. The RS is really a different discussion, as I think there are a couple of test mules which are probably fitted w/ GT3 power plants in different states of tune, and no decision has been made whether this car will see light of day for various reasons.

Likely the new GT4 won't arrive til early 2019 which leaves me almost another year without a Porsche. I'm starting to lean more towards buying a GT4 at a good value (clear bra, lower miles, buckets, etc) then selling it private party when the 718 GT4 arrives. If I'm getting a 718 GT4 at MSRP, I would pass on trading in the 981 GT4 as I know the dealer would screw me. If the build is desirable, selling it private party next year won't be an issue.

Local dealers (to me) wont put you on a MSRP GT car list unless you're trading in a GT car, and while they'll sell you the new car at MSRP, they take their massive premium out of your trade. Buying a GT car without trading in a GT car is against Deutchland law here! Half of the pitch for the used GT cars in their inventory is to get on the new GT car list. What a racket!

I have a GT4 I’d be willing to trade for a new one at MSRP. Please post or PM me with which dealers you’re referring. Thanks.
