No offense meant, but the feeling is mutual - most of us don't exactly love "Porsche techs" either - that is why we choose to work on our cars ourselves whenever possible. And it is an easy car to work on - at least for me.
Not true. There are more "911" variant owners on rennlist than all other models. We are just passionate about the 928 and feel that, all around and for many, many reasons, it is the "best" Porsche.
You can say whatever negative things you want. Just base them in fact, not bs. I prefer to expound on the positives of our cars, but to each his own.
P.S. Consider the thread extended

Flott Leben,
Relax, Fixinprsh is just expressing an opinion...no need for the "Porsceh tech" jibe.
As for saying negative things, it's just people's opinions, eh? You guys do it yourselves. For instance, a lot of 928 owners have a huge number of negative things to say about the Boxster (and the 'lifestyle' of its owners)...and ALL of it is based on b.s. (little wonder why there are so few Boxster posters on this list...you guys are putting people off!). Do I care what you think of Porsche's saviour being a hairdresser's car? No. Let people express their opinions, positive or negative. Why would you care what people thought about the 928? I never did when I owned mine (and I WILL take issue with anyone who questions my love for 928s!). Does that make me any less loyal to the 928? No. More secure maybe, but not less loyal.
I've lived with a 928 prior to getting my Boxster, and as wonderful as the 928 is, I am very well aware of it's many strengths AND it's many shortcomings. So trust me I would be the last person to talk b.s. about the car.
Nobody questions your passion for 928's (or 911's or whatever), but don't be offended for people not liking the car you own either. Passion and zealotry are not the same thing.
And yes, so long as you're civil, this thread is extended

Hmmm....fender benders aren't exactly a dime to replace on the 928 either. My biggest worry when I owned my car was the cost of any accident repairs far outweighing the value of the vehicle (and I'm not a wrench, so this was a very real concern for me regarding 928 ownership). Thankfully, the 928 was so visually arresting that people DID look at the car (and hence would be less likely to hit it)!
Actually, to drive on US roadways, aren't all North American 928's 'butchered' from the factory (i.e. the US models always had lowered hp for emissions regulations compared to their European counterparts). Thank US legislators for that, not Porsche
Oh yeah, I can't believe the CGT's spare parts prices: 980.505.211.05 Rear bumper cover-$14060.54!!!!

However, starting in '87 the output of the 928 was the same in the US and ROW.
There is a difference between a factory-designed country-specific car and what the 'importers' are doing to the 959 to DOT/EPA it to the limited extent required by the more-lax limited-production import law.
Now, don't get me wrong - I think the folks in CA (don't remember name) are doing a fantastic job in converting the 959. And if you really want one fine. But I don't. I'd rather have my 928s than a 959. Who exactly is going to work on it? A Porsche dealer? Not. A local 911 shop? Maybe. Does the converter include all the documentation for the conversion and upgraded/replaced parts so that future techs are not scratchin' their heads?
Oh? Or maybe the 959s just not going to get driven because it was bought for its status or rarity? And thus repairs don't matter.

What a 928 may not do as well as another Porsche it does almost as well -- and does it as well or better than most other Porsches. For me, that makes the 928 the better car.

That isn't a fair comparison, though. It would be ridiculous to even consider using a Carrera GT or a 959 for daily driving, or even the rare 10+ hour drive. That's irrelevant, and certainly shouldn't be the reason to own a CGT.
People who own CGT's more than likely own a whole bunch of other cars, so even considering an "if I could have this rather than this" argument is well, moot. A Carrera GT or a 959 function best for the track (drivability on the road happens to be a secondary function). And on the track these cars have few peers.
I think this is what the point is about these cars, not about practicality.

From saphriel:
"Anyway, back to the topic: the best Porsche ever? Wasn't it Ferry Porsche himself who said that the best Porsche is the one that isn't built yet?"
That's why, when he was still living and driving to the Office Center in Ludwigsburg, he drove a...MB 450SEL 6.9. You don't think he actually regularly drove any of the "one off versions" presented to him on various birthdays, including the 914-8 or the 4-door 928 do you?....

Of course, they'd have to arm wrestle about air cooling versus water cooling first.

They appear to - you see them in various magazines from time to time. I think almost all of the Porsche family cars are accounted for at Porsche (except one of Ferry's 911s with some ugly-*** color scheme in the UK), but you regularly hear of higher exec cars being sold to friends and from there entering circulation.
