It can't cure cancer . . . yet. But a spirited drive in a 928 sure can cure depression, stress, anxiety, lethargy and a case of the plain old blahs. Not to mention it can put a smile on your face, ear to ear. Who knows, maybe in some cases a car can help put cancer into remission - the body and mind work in strange ways.

Delusions are not necessary. Grandeur, there is plenty.

I think after the results of this poll are noted, the thread starter should start another poll with the sub-models in the categories. For example if the 911 series wins... go into a poll with the most prominent 911 models produced. Just an idea...

well WORF, you wanna start a flame war on the boards? ok lets start with your car, a z28 has alot of things in common with your 928, lets see, both have 8 cylinders, front engine, rear drive, two doors, hatch in the rear, 4 seats, heavy as a tank, cost a fortune when new but are worth next to nothing now and expensive to fix, thats probably why you work on it yourself so you can afford to keep it. Oh and those fenders are very exspensive to replace.
(they are aluminum, did ya know that?) so dont hate me because I know more about your car then you ever will

and trust me, if you 928 owners could afford a 959 or a CGT, you would have the 928 donated to goodwill and a Bently for road trips. (Rolls are for snobby old farts)

as far as the 959, Its the pinicle of technological development in a 911, I can work on a 959. most people can after all parts are parts and bolts are bolts, I know Dieter at Andial has two in his shop as we speak, he is doing the conversions too. (call him and tell him nobody can work on it)

and saying " I get most of the performance of a Carrera GT or 959 in a car I can actually afford to own." is laughable, do you really think your car can perform anything close to a 959 or a CGT besides being used as an artifical reef? that I would love to see that!

Are you presuming that 928 car owners are poor souls who can't afford a real car? You're wandering into territory that is full of land mines, dude. All Porsches, no matter what model, rock. All of the individuals that I know that own 928s, purchased the car not as a compromise but as his/her dream vehicle. These crazy people collect these cars (even when they're run out of garage space!), raise them from the dead, rebuild them knowing they'll never get their money back, and drive thousand of miles to buy them.

If loyality, devotion, and obsession are the parameters of what make the best Porsche owner, then the 928 owners rank number one. Thus logic follows if the best owners own the best Porsche, the 928 is number one as this poll has proven.

I knew who I was posting about, there are two of you, . BTW the average curb weight of a 928 is 3500 lbs . last ime I checked a 959 was just shy of 3000 lbs and its pretty loaded up with four wheel drive and electronic whatnots like a 928 and a 996 tips in just over 2900 lbs for a stripped C2 to 3300+ for a turbo with tip and bells and whistles

I also wasn't suggesting that 928 owners are poor. just look at the prices for parts! working on it themselves just helps to pay for the parts as it saves them from paying me $115 per hour to change the water pump.

I do like 928's and would rather put a 1000 miles under my *** in one siting in a 928 then my 911, but to call it the greatest Porsche ever is a long shot, In order for that I think it would have to qualify as a Porsche for what the marque is (was) about. It isn't light weight, It isn't a true "sports car" built with racing as a main focal point, It never had any serious variations. never really improved upon much more then the dose of vitamin HP as nesesary to boost sales, look how far the 911 advanced along side it up untill the end. And I don't buy the excuse of it being a replacement for the 911 unless there was too much opium in the water cooler at weissach. and all you people will be glad to hear there is another 928 working its way through the pipes using the Cayenne turbo motor

Hate to jump into your little contest here but here's some facts. Only ones truly breaking 3500 barrier are GTS's and later year US S4's.

Now if you add 5 mph or whatever impact bumbers to 959 expect it to gain at least 100 lbs. Not to mention back seats etc.

It's funny how 928 is viewed as heavy Lincoln when every time there's significant change to 911 new model more and more resembles what 928 has been for past 25 years. 998 or 999 might even fix last remaining flaw and finally put engine up front.

When I find 3+ independent sources for a bit of info that is as straightforward as the weight of a car... such as here, here, here, and here and all those sources agree within an insignificant amount, I tend to trust that more than some guy yakking on a message board. Especially when that yakker is clearly biased and seems to define terms as convenient to suit his specious arguments.

For example, you seem to have defined "What the Porsche marque is about" as something, anything, so long as it's not a 928. What your most recent post is saying is that if a car does not have a Volkswagen bug-derived powertrain layout then it cannot be a Porsche. If it did not suffer from decades of tricky handling due to the instability inherent in its layout, only overcome through what I'm guessing amounts to man-centuries of engineering effort then it cannot be a Porsche.

Now, suppose we consider my definition of "What the Porsche marque is about": "A car built for performance far beyond the ordinary".

Based on that, I can consider all authentically Porsche-badged vehicles as brethren to my shark. Why do you have a problem with that? Why are you hatin'?

And btw, the 959 isn't that fast - my 944 is quicker around Hockenheimring in stock configuration.

959 is the best Porsche ever. No question. That car was so far ahead of its time when it came out, we STILL are not there yet.
