It makes zero sense to me that Porsche would makes such a big investment in synthetic fuels for just the 911. It’s hard to believe that there won’t be ICE variants of the Boxster/Cayman. Then again, I don’t see how they can develop a whole new Boxster/Cayman platform that will accept both a battery pack and an ICE…
And, the manual transmission is really the only reason that synthetic fuels make any sense even in the 911. Ok, I guess I’d (reluctantly) say that the PDK also gives synthetic fuel a reason to exist. But the manual and the PDK will both be irrelevant in an EV. Will there really be enough of us diehard stick shifters or paddle pullers around to keep the ICE around? I seriously doubt it. Transmissions and gears are the only justification for ICE vehicles, and the demand diminishes every day. Therefore, I don’t understand the investment in synthetic fuels.

Possibly to keep all their other cars on the roads for much longer. Think about it...with an EV....they need next to no service over their lifetime compared to ICE.....so what are all the techs going to do.

The techs will be retrained to work in the electric power industry to support the massive build out required to "fuel" the EV autos....

there’s no economic way to make enough synthetic fuels to do more than keep motor sports alive and classic cars on the road and maybe a few extremely expensive supercars. It’s just not going to save ice power trains for average consumers, and without that, there won’t be any economy of scale to keep it economical at all
The video is in German. They show two pictures of a 718 EV development vehicle charging. Seems it was charging at ~180kW with 53% state of charge on the battery. Pretty solid performance.
It’s bittersweet for me. I love having the last ICE cars with manual transmissions. I won’t have any desire to trade them for EVs so I’ll have them a long time (probably forever), and I’ll save tons of money. Think of how wonderful it would be to have the best car ever made and never be tempted to “trade up” because there is nothing better. That’s currently how I feel about my cars. Wouldn’t it be great if I felt that way for ever? I think it will be fantastic if I’m still driving my current Porsches 20 years from now when everything else on the road is a self driving EV. The more boring cars become, the better my current cars will become.

I for one welcome our new EV overlords as they bring heaps of performance when done well. As long as I can still get some fuel for my ICE cars to relive the "glory days" all will work out. Porsche plans to make a replacement for Dyno based fuels, I'm sure that will be cheap
going to be interesting to see how Porsche prices these considering you can now get a Model 3 Performance that blast 0-60 in 3.1 seconds and handles as well as any sports sedan, if not better, for under $55K new right now...
Porsche could kill it with this car if they price it right and get it out before the competition does.
btw, I don't get all the hate from the boomers when it comes to these type of cars?
Don't worry folks, your gas cars will still be around long after you are bowling with Jesus
