I need to learn to do setups, like rebound on the shocks/dampers one setup I tried I couldn't touch a curb else it would upset the car. I ended up with the baseline and just lowering the car.

When running laps @ Road Atlanta I did play around with the car's rake a little - raised the nose, lowered the rear end... and the car felt better. Seemed like it both (a) added front grip? AND (b) increased my top speed a little. Didn't expect that.

I turned some laps yesterday at Mid Ohio with the Ruf 'Track'. I was much slower than I expected to be! I couldn't even crack the top 10 in my first session. After downloading a setup and starting to loosen it up I started finding some speed. I'd like to get back to being in the top 5 of any given session again, but I think it's going to be a struggle. The setups sure have changed a lot so we're going to have to spend some time dialing it in.

Yesterday and today I ran Blancpain Sprint Series race, some really great and close racing. First time I had to do a pit stop, didn't realize it until near the end of the session I wasn't going to have enough fuel :-)
Been a while sense I ran one of the series have they changed them all to now have a practice/qualifying/race configuration?

First race October 7th
We'll start with a pickup race at Laguna seca. No points, just for fun. I think the same structure will work well for us in terms of timing. I'll keep the weather as "realistic" and the track will start green and there will be no sweeping of marbles. RUF Track is the car and I'm starting to get a setup dialed in that I'd be happy to share. It's a modified Jon Hall setup from the iracing forum.

Sounds good to me. I've jumped into a few MX5 races at Summit to get ready for the club race and I'm a little rusty. I haven't driven the RUF since the season ended, I can use all the practice I can get.

I should be in. (Only reason I say "should" is I'm paranoid I'll forget...)
I've been playing in the IMSA series lately in the Ruf C-Spec. It's definitely not as easy to drive as the Track but I've started to get setups down (not perfect but ballpark) and it's kind of fun. No ABS makes it more challenging. The car also feels more like a 911 IMO - you really do have to trailbrake to the apex to keep it turning.

Can you give a baseline of "if you can't run a lap under X:XX time in car Y please don't even bother"?
I know the default answer is "don't worry about it" but racing people way faster or way slower sucks. I've been in both spots.

Join no matter what, in a few races even if you're not fast you'll be comfortable with letting the faster guys by.

Don't worry about it. When I started I was running on a laptop that could barely keep up. I was three or four seconds off the pace but it was still fun. Once I got a decent machine I became much more competitive. I was still a second or so off the leaders but it's still fun and there are always people to race with. Everybody gives racing room from the front to the back.
