I think everybody let off a little at the end. I did because I wasn't going to catch Justin and I had a good margin over Sysgen but the gaps stayed pretty constant even after I did.

Thanks guys
I think I just got lucky - all the tracks so far this season have been tracks I really like. If I have to run a track I'm not fond of I fall off pretty quickly and just try to survive. Tracks I like, I'm confident and can push harder.
Last night I pretty much kept my head down and pushed as hard as I could until a few laps after Justin fell off. I ran about as hard as I could the first few laps (especially after I murdered Justin and Burkey @ the start LOL) maintaining (and even besting) my qualifying pace and noticed that I wasn't really gaining anything - so those two guys must've been pushing hard too as the gap stayed pretty much the same in the ~2.6-2.8 range. Far enough away to not catch my draft but close enough that even a little bobble would cost me a position. I knew if they got in front of me it would be tough to get those spots back.
When I noticed Justin was gone, the gap back to Burkey was a little bigger. I pushed a few more laps and noticed the performance seemed to be falling off so I relaxed a little, comfortable giving up a few tenths here and there since I had a margin to play with. The gap stayed the same though so Burkey must've done the same thing...

If I bang it off the limiter and drop it into 1st (with TC set to 1) it will light 'em up big time for me, every time. It'll bog if you have TC at 2 or higher, and it'll bog if you dump the clutch (vs. just slamming it into gear).
I was having fun at the 24 doing it as I left the pits, painting fresh stripes out of the stall after every stop. Probably because deep down I'm just a big dork and love seeing the real GT3 Cups do that when they pull out of the pits.

Sorry I missed the race on Wed.
There is also a third method for taking off smoothly, and that is to simply put it into gear without touching the pedals. Auto brake and auto clutch will be engaged. As soon as the lights go green, you mash the throttle. The auto clutch will release relatively slowly, and you'll get pretty much perfect traction without any actual TC.

Are you sure you're not pressing any pedals and have shifted into 1st gear?
It works for me just fine from the pits. Here is what happens:
1. Press nothing!
2. Shift into gear, still pressing nothing else
3. Mash throttle.
You'll see that the brake gets gently and automatically released, while the clutch holds a position for about 1 second. No wheel spin.
The data is from the RUF Track. No auto-clutch, and no aids of any kind.

Drifting
I've been seeing something about a change in the way springs and suspension are modeled, so we may all be scrambling trying to figure out our setups right before the race tomorrow.
