One more report on successfully getting a check after submmitting a claim. I almost couldn't believe it, but I got my check in the mail yesterday. For the full amount I paid to buy a remanufactured transfer case, and its installation (a little over $4,400). Probably the first and last time I will get a check from Porsche. Very impressed.

Our 2017 Cayenne is my daughter's vehicle so I rarely drive it. Took it for a three hour trip about a month ago and was 99% sure I was feeling the transfer case symptoms.
Took it for a 5 hour trip last weekend and there was no doubt about it - accelerating from 5 - 60mph, not full but with some haste, produced the stuttering effect every time. Without all of this other discussion, I would have listed transfer case, slipping transmission/clutch, injector problem, or just something wrong in the ECU program. Maybe even a vote for bad gas. But, took it in today and the tech diagnosed transfer case replacement within ten minutes. Note that the vehicle did need a 15-20 minute warming cycle to really begin to feel the issue.
They have had a few 958's with this issue in the last few weeks so they had a TC in stock to do the replacement. But she also had bent two wheels on our fine roadways so won't be ready for pickup for a couple of days.....have to suffer with the 300 mile, 2021 loaner........first world prob

Will be getting my CS back today, second transfer case replacement at 51k miles (first done at around 28k miles), changed fluid myself at 40k miles. The part number they put on the invoice was PO958-341-013-DX. Does anyone know if that's an updated part? Is there really any point in changing transfer case fluid every 10k miles if it will just fail again? Porsche did the right thing with extending the warranty on that part.

I will say... just took delivery of my 2011 CTT and the paranoia is off the charts! Dropping the TC fluid this weekend as an initial measure.

Don't be paranoid. Enjoy your car.

Paranoia is real, at least you’re putting the mask on it. It’s like covid, ignore it and it goes away. It’s like god, he will always find you.

Battery, brake rotors, pads, calipers are built to last. My 2 cents.

Picked mine up yesterday after the replacement; my service invoice states the transfer box as PO958-341-013-JX
It feels great now and hope that's a one-time solution......

I know that symptoms and troubleshooting have been covered here extensively and I'm pretty familiar with the most common symptoms of TC failure. I have 96k is on my 2016 GTS and it had it's first fluid change at around 80k when I bought it. All has been well up until recently, but my symptoms feel a bit different than what is typically described here. I only notice issues when putting the car into Drive. In the first few seconds it feels like there is some periodic hesitation and "clunkiness" as the car sorts itself out. After that, zero issues/grinding/slippage. Under normal cirumstances I'd suspect the tranny, but these gearboxes have proven to be pretty bullet proof, whereas the TCs have not. Curious if anyone else has seen accounts of similar behavior?

My next steps are to disconnect the TC and see where that gets me.

Default 2017 Base TC Replaced

I took my 2017 3.6L 55k on the clock in today to have the TC looked at. All the same symptoms shutter from 1-2-3-4 and gets worse when it warmed up. They had one in stock and replaced it in a day. All covered under warranty.

I just got a new transfer case on my 2017 S at 34k miles. I started noticing problems at around 30k miles, but it became intolerable over the last two months. Hated driving it around town. My service advisor wasn't able to tell me anything about any changes that might have been made to the replacement transfer cases. Does anyone have any insight? Should I expect it to fail again?

There is a new style vent on the top of the transfer case that is designed to prevent water from entering, but I'm not sure if that was already included in the 2017MY. I recall chatter about internals that were strengthened via some sort of coating, but don't quote me on that one.

My 2017 had a TC replacement at about 30K miles by previous owner in 11/2019. Mine was an early 2017, 06/2016 production date. They also installed a vent line as a separate line item.
