Transfer case

So I had FVD Tune Installed on my 13 CS. If you think you have a rough drivetrain, I'd recommend it. Fixed the transfer case, hesitation, jerking rough acceleration. Shifting is smooth and accurate the way it should be from the factory. Drive train is smooth. Cannot tell the horsepower gains but I am not complaining. Its driving the way its suppose to now.

My $.02, 2016 Cayenne Turbo S, 26k miles, getting new transfer case tomorrow.

Is the now a consensus view on how often to change the transfer case fluid? I notice that some people have reported the Transfer Case failing very early. As it is very cheap to replace the fluid, perhaps it should be annual to be safe? For me this would be 5-10k miles.
I've had my Transfer Case done this year so am now out of the warrantee period.

Looking at a Cayenne Turbo that literately has its TC warranty expiring in less than a month. What did you guys say (do?) to get your TC addressed while it was still under warranty? Obviously I'm not trying to "invent" a problem, but I would be taking a once in a lifetime cross country road trip to get the pig back home, and would HATE for the TC to go while on the road literately the week after the warranty expired... Feel free to PM me if you don't want to post publicly.

If it were me, I'd look at a different car unless you've got your heart set on it or you get a sweetheart deal such that you could afford to replace the TC out-of-pocket.

Get a full service history on the car from a Porsche dealer and find out when/if the TC was replaced. The info from this forum indicates the reliability even of replacements hasn't been particularly good. I haven't seen any particular region, mileage or driving style that seems to be the trigger point for failures, but they do fail at an unacceptably high rate.

hesitation/jerking in lower gears seems to be some of the key words.
Worst case, if you are fairly mechanically inclined, a TC rebuild isn't very difficult.

I purchased a 2011 Cayenne Turbo in April 2021, up here in Canada with only 72,000km (45,000 miles on it). It had a comprehensive pre purchase inspection done on it and was given a clean bill of health. The in service date was June 2011, so it was just under 10 years old when I bought it. I was out of the country for June and July so didn't drive it at all those two months. In August, the transfer case failed. It was discovered at 10 years and 66 days old.
After a fair bit of back and forth between the dealer and Porsche Canada, I was offered a 50% discount on the out of warranty replacement of the transfer case. Bummed we didn't catch it 66 days earlier, but thankful for not being 100% on the hook for it. Side note, the actual service work can't be done for 2 months either. Not sure if that was parts or capacity related, but enjoying driving my new to me 997.2 in the mean time.

Purchased a 2014 3.6 in may, also in Canada. 78k kms on the clock when I got it. Developed TC symptoms upon acceleration as described by everyone here. Got some OEM fluid and did two drain fills within 200kms of eachother. Worked great the first time, 2nd was piece of mind.
I'd like to just get the newer TC with the vent mod, so may wait for it to inevitably come back but if even the replacements are doing the same then a regular service would be critical.
Where we live, we see a lot of water. tons of snow or rain, and I'm no stranger to driving in deep examples of both. Has anyone here removed the scoop that helps cause this issue, or put a screen in it to generate turbulence in the flow to disrupt it from getting above? Or has anyone jammed some motofoam into that cavity above the TC vent to mitigate water from splashing onto it?

i have always noticed a jerk when starting from a stop but only once and only when car is first used for the day - when i purchased it (private sale) the PO gave me an invoice from a local porsche dealer for a replacement of the transfer case in january 2020 - i looked under the car and the date of manufacture is 8/19 - this date is on the cover of the electrical box on TC - so i assume it was done and has the new improved TC - i took it back to dealer who did replacement and they couldn't find a problem - it's not really a big issue and i'm not sure it's even the TC - should i take to a different dealer to check - would this still be under extended warranty (car was put into service 2012)
