Why don't you guy get yours fixed? Or you are saying it was fixed but it didn't fully fix the problem?

You are fine to drive with it unplugged.

No, all its doing is not engaging the worm drive that works on a ramp to squeeze the fwd clutch disks together.

I drove about 40 miles like that, totally fine

So here is a weird one. It obviously throws a all wheel drive fault which I knew it would but now it seems like it also put the car into limp mode. Boost only gets to .3 bar. Is that normal? I know before I unplugged it was getting up to over .7 I believe.

Odd. I have an s not a turbo, so i had no limp mode but maybe porsche is so concerned about the massive power overwhelming a driver with only rwd.

If thats the only change and its that sudden, then maybe its not happy like that. News to me though

AlbumCover I'm having a hard time understanding this.
Let's say the TC just "cut loose" 100%. Your Cayenne is now a rear wheel drive car.
Direct drive rear wheel drive.
I don't see how it can lose power. Lose some front wheel drive, but that doesn't make a huge difference.

Or if you disconnect the TC control system plug. Again, at that point you now have a rear wheel drive Cayenne.

Where's the massive loss of power...... lost to?
Are your rear wheels spinning, like a smoking burnout?

Can the TC problems be described simply as
"a clutch slipping that results in loss of power to the front wheels of the AWD vehicle"?

Thanks - but there are quite a few people with a LOT more miles than that.... I want to take it to 200k, but that requires solving the mystery coolant leak that a dealer and a premier independent shop haven't been able to. I was recommended a new shop recently - and may have them take a look.

Apologize in advance for asking potentially a dumb question, but did they not also extend the warranty for 2015-2018? Were the later model transfer cases not problematic as well? From the pinned survey thread it seems like people have had issues with these newer models too.

Good question. No idea but the car is way slower. Feels like a manual transmission car with a worn out clutch. Gotta baby the gas pedal otherwise all you get are a bunch of RPM's and no movement.

Not an engineer/mechanic but if I had to guess, power actually flows like so: Engine >> Transmission >> Transfer case clutch packs >> power to rear/front. The clutches are worn and slip, loss of power all around.

Your theory is correct for 4WD and when the stepper motor is unplugged because then the TC defaults to 100% RWD (?) but with the transfer case "plugged in", it tries to do the 32/68 default F/R power split and all the power is lost in the slipping clutches.

Someone with more knowledge can hopefully chime in.

I'm wondering since Porsche has supposedly "fixed" the transfer case problem, what fluid are they recommending with the "new" boxes. I thought I read that they changed the the material of the clutch discs. Do they recommend a different fluid? Or is it business as usual?

I wonder if we should maintain the "new" boxes like we do with the old boxes? With regular fluid changes?
