2017 Cayenne V6 w/ 32,000 km. Transfer case replaced by Porsche under CPO warranty today. Hesitations at low speed acceleration started around 30,000km. Very pronounced when pulling my 24' trailer.

i would like see what is best to use in the TC. Porsche oem, shell branded one from above like it the Ravenol? Any negatives with non Porsche oem with the others?
thanks in advance.
I read through the entire thread but didn’t see anything in reference to my question unless I missed it.

FYI- I cracked my transfer case housing by the drain plug at 11.32ft/lbs. I was using a freshly calibrated torque wrench with +/- 0.01 ft. lbs.
JB welded for now, will tig weld it one day when it needs a rebuild, or if/when the JB Weld fails.
Be careful friends. Next time I will probably only do 8 ft lbs.
If anyone wants to sell a transfer case or the transfer case housing for a 12' CTT let me know.

It's a tapered steel plug threading into a thinwall cast aluminum case.
I believe I've said MANY times - put the fookin' torque wrench away. I don't care how well calibrated it is - your arm will tend to use the extra leverage of a long wrench and overtighten it even with a torque wrench (especially a clicker or electronic, dial or beam would be slightly better if you actually watch them.)
Get NEW plugs, install using a 3" allen-key by hand, use no more than 3 fingers on the allen key. Tighten GENTLY. It's not going to fall out. Really. The goop on them seals it up and keeps it in place.
The number of people who've broken cases on these is starting to make me think I should take down all the instructions on changing the oil.

Burning Brakes
Finally got around to taking my 2014 Cayenne S in for its second TC replacement. I reported earlier in this thread it was failing. They replaced it no questions asked. So, I got the first one at 30K and a now a new one at 50K. Let's hope they got better rebuilt ones in the last 20 months. I have until June 2020 for CPO and then cannot imagine wanting to keep it and deal with repairs.

Has anyone rebuilt one themselves yet?
There is that video that was posted of a similar transfer case (from a VW?), but several people said it would work for the Cayenne as well. Parts were around $300 or so.
But...has anyone actually done it?

2014 GTS with 48,000 miles (wife's minivan). I don't get to drive it much but took it to the store the other day, I think the transfer case is failing. Feels like its hesitating or running over small bridge joints under load in mid to upper RPM ranges in primarily 2nd and higher gears.
I have an appointment for Monday at Porsche of Tysons and will fill out the survey when I get the final word. It's out of factory warranty (time) but I purchased it at CarMax and have their max care warranty, should pay for itself entirely after this job.

Keep us posted! I am in the same boat bought a 16 GTS at CarMax with their MaxCare warranty with $50 deductible and it is doing the same transfer case issue. Have not had chance to brought into dealer yet for under warranty inspection. How is your experience with MaxCare warranty? Have you ever file any claim before for repairing?

My deductible is $50 if I take it to CarMax, however, I've been taking it to my Porsche dealer instead. The deductible jumps to $150 if you do this, however, I like using the dealer because they have free loaners usually a Macan, and I like the paper trail of dealer services for when I go to sell the truck.
I've used the warranty twice so far, I just give the Porsche dealer the policy number ahead of time and they take care of everything. So far it has been a very simple process.

Cayenne S 2011 ... first owner. 83,000 miles. Transfer case has failed. Looking at $4900 to fix it since it’s out of warranty. Dealer won’t even give me a goodwill partial credit.
