We know vw and Audi 3.0 owners received $500 visa card. As CD owners we received a warranty extension to100k miles. As a CPO owner that does me no good. I already have a 100k mile warranty. I took my CD in for service today and asked the service advisor about the CPO warranty being extended. He hadn't heard anything about that. They looked up my CD and the warranty is still listed as 100k.

1) the "fix" for the 3.0L is simple, minimal and has zero impact on fuel mileage and performance
2) the stop sale new inventory, when once cleared and stop sale removed, sells out at a record pace - I have no idea what that record pace is, but let's say in a few months,
3) CD customers who do not have and cannot get a CD keep pressuring dealers to order one.

Those are big if's and odds are slim, but if it happens, we may see a return of the diesel sooner than later.

And lastly, this is 100% pure speculation as we continue to wait for information ...
Yeap I agree 100%.

It comes down to if diesel has been significantly diminished in the view of average buyer or not. Only time will tell at this point, just wish they get the damn clock started...

That sounds like the official answer then and it's a pretty crappy one.

I can't imagine, however, that they won't do something. Otherwise they are opening themselves to yet another lawsuit.

Cayennes are selling at approx 1700 units per month. CD's were accounting for approx 1/3 of that before the stop sale. There are 318 new CDs for sale on Cars.com so I would imagine it should not take long to move through them..

I don't know if this will really hurt Porsche and the diesel reputation. When I tell most people my Porsche is a diesel they are in disbelief and never even knew porsche sold a diesel.

Bingo.... Only us car geeks, a very small minority, even know about Porsche diesels. My wife still gets panicked warnings from people when filling up the tank with diesel.

That's funny ... I remember when I had a Cayenne V6 gas loaner and my service manager friend reminded me a couple times, don't put diesel in it. I guess they must have had a CD owner at one time forget he/she wasn't driving a CD loaner.

It's too much to hope that Porsche's proposal was simply:

Go fvck yourselves you self righteous ********!

Seriously though, that may be an indication that a simple software fix may not do...

Politics and posturing aside, CARB rejected the 2.0 fix from VW and it turns out they were correct in doing so. Most cars were unfixable to meet emission standards in place when they were manufactured. And as we saw in Europe the "fix" didn't bring the cars into compliance and had significant effects on performance. Hate them all you want but CARB was correct.

I hope the current 3.0 rejection is simply posturing and does not portend a situation where the 3.0's cannot be brought into compliance or not brought into compliance without significant reduction in performance or longevity of emissions equipment.

Like everyone, I hate the delays and uncertainty. We loved our CD and hope to have another.

My hate for them has nothing to do with if the rejection is right or wrong based on the current laws. It is based on the BS they have spewed to get the current laws in place to begin with.

This is a debate without ending. My position is that the CARB guidelines are achievable without a need for cheating. Till today nobody has come up showing that BMW's X5 cheated. It is almost a year by now and you would think someone would have pointed that out. Gnat, I am not an expert at this but I remember showing you the results of the independent investigators who originally found VW cheating. They never found the X5 cheating. At that time you said you would study that data. I don't remember anyone disputing that data.
