Silly question but may as well ask... but did you attach the 1.5" stubby wifi+bluetooth antenna to the back of the head unit?

Are you able to hotspot to the unit without issue?

+5V, ground, data positive, and data ground.
I'm glad you typed that... it did not occur to me previously that this is an option. Thank you!

I did, I have not tried the hotspot.

I will add that when I tested the phone mirroring via USB, it was sucking battery faster than it was able to charge!

I am waiting on delivery of one of the 9" Android 8 units.
Today I pulled the factory PCM in my 2006 Cayenne S to see what was behind.
Two connectors, the Most Optical connector, GPS & GSM connectors.
BUT...There was no radio antenna cable to be found, nothing running to the connector on the radio, no wire/connector laying around in the cavity!
Am I missing something?
The radio worked, signals seemed to be good, but I have only been driving around town in the 3+ weeks of ownership...

I started my 955 android head unit installation post but it will take some time to finish. It may give a few insights to cut your learning curve.

I just realized that i don't have ANY sound from the rear of the car and this is highly disappointing to me.

One thing I've always wondered about these Android head units - how is the sound quality? I've been told that they cheap out on the audio circuitry. Is that true?

Sound quality is similar to stock. Don't upgrade for an improvement in sound, upgrade for a massive improvement in functionality.

cheers,
c

For file transfer to the Head Unit, I tried connecting phone and laptop via the USB port. There are two ports, and I tried both. The unit is not recognized by the laptop. What step(s) am I missing to get this to work?

I believe you will have to move files from laptop to USB stick and then connect USB stick to head unit.

I created a dropbox folder called Porsche that stays in sync with the car using dropsync. Anything I put in that folder automatically gets copied to the car when it syncs up.

Most Android systems require you to use a setting (often via the notifications drop-down menu) to enable the USB port for specific types of transfers. Pictures, files, power-only, etc. Don't know if that applies to the radio setup or not, just my first thought. That's if it'll accept a computer connection via USB at all. If not, as others have suggesting, using a USB flash drive is probably the next step. Don't use a humongous one, stick to under 8gb for testing purposes until you're sure that will work. Some implementations of USB software have issues when the drive capacity is beyond a certain size, I keep some 1, 4 and 8gb drives around just in the event some old device needs an update and won't work with modern 32gb+ drives.
