Now before you think that a 2007 GT3 in driver condition with numerous cosmetic issues being offered for $165k is high, please note that the BMW dealer website says the retail value of the car is $199k, and they are offering it at a $35k discount. Very nice of them.

You're selling it short, it's actually $35,001. Huge discount!

but has it sold a 3rd time? ... being flipped again?
Holy crap! ... So I need to modify my post to say that it is not a $26k bump,.. but rather a $35k flip (& only the 2nd resale beyond NstyMatt)

I might have suspected such a flip from a unscrupulous used-sports car dealer,... but a BMW dealership?
And I'm assuming that NstyMatt traded it in to them & bought a new BMW,... so you must know them personally right Matt?

... I SURE hope you got ONE HELLOVA deal on that BMW ... ie that trade-in number must have been waaaay higher than the $123k you were offering it up to RLers.
If so, it surely helps proves the point that it is just NOT worth it to attempt selling your car to the peanut gallery (we used to call ourselves the enthusiast crowd),... but with this economy, and people buying sight unseen for ridiculous prices,... things have just gone off the rails.

off rant.

Yea I wasn't sure why somebody didn't just buy it. But then hindsight is 2020, right? Maybe the BMW dealer is as dumb as a rock, and mixed it up as an RS, bought it from him for $123k, hence the $199k retail value?

They likely reconditioned it by cleaning up the wheels for $400 and then air brushed some of the blemishes and will now sell it as nearly pristine.

Has anyone been watching this one?

VIN WP0AC2A93BS783357

https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...=myATCsavedcar

They had it listed at $220K where it sat for a while then bumped it to $314K for no reason whatsoever. Was up on PCA and bid to $85K two years ago with a standard wheel instead of the RS wheel, steel rotors instead of ceramics, etc. Seller had no explanation for the changes at the time, but now it has been brought back to the stock configuration. Did anyone ever see a PPI or over rev report?

Man I’m going through some past BAT 997 GT3 listings, and can’t believe the 25k mile Sharkwerks 3.9 997.1 sold for only $110k back in 3/2021. If I was in market then, I would have gobbled that one up. I need to stop looking….

Nope didn't sell it to that dealer. Sold it to some wholesale dealer I've never heard of before..was kind of sketched out to be honest. but we met at a bank and they brought a check, painless

It’s hard to find these rare cars being sold privately. Most trade these cars to get a tax break on the next toy and to not deal with the non-sense.

Wasn't trying to trash you. The car wasn't for me. I posted earlier that the car had good bones and you were an honest seller. However it is lame to see a dealer give it a quick fix and flip but thats why it is always great to buy a car from an actual owner.

The days are long gone where a private seller is listing their car (or their house) at a slightly elevated realistic market price, and buyers get to haggle down from there.

It's been two years of rising tides, and in those periods buyers do not even get the chances, because wholesalers & dealers are acting so fast, with so many incentives to the sellers, and then setting the market prices themselves. They all see the opportunity to make a buck (I don't blame them since they really recognized it first. I surely did not (literally every day last year was a shock to me).

Many of you kept saying it,... I guess I just did not want to believe it could be like this.

.... I need to go for a drive.... bang out some gear changes,... and get my mojo back

It would be tough for me not to “trade” in to a dealer if I lived in a state with inventory… 13k is 13k. We have 1 Porsche dealer in my state and they keep a 30 “resident” person allocation list w/$2500 deposit, no markups. Once your name comes up you get to chose from “whatever” allocation they have avail… could be a 4S could be a 918. The system works here… doesn’t really matter how many Porsches or money you have. Some guys have been on it for years and just turn down cars they don’t want.

But like I said… provides little value to trade it to a dealer vs private sale or auction.

This is the nightmare I'm currently living. Add to that the near constant hounding by, and effort to decline, wholesalers/dealers, consigners, auction site employees (BAT, CC, C&B, PCM, CfC, etc.), and people offering auctioning services said auction sites. One's patience wears thin.

Mine is a steal at a $64k discount!

*Raises hand* I'm right here.

Trade in tax incentive is definitely attractive. Definitely thought about getting into another, cheaper, car just save the above aforementioned private sales hassles. But alas, not really interested in another car and certainly not my objective...just trying to put some funds away for a baby.
