Watkins Glen was an incredible track to drive! None of videos I watched prior to actually driving the track in person had prepared me for such an overwhelm feast to the senses! I took it easy for a day and a half. Actually the first day I was all over the place. First session in day 2 I started to put it together. Helped others on car repairs to pass the time between my runs. Some people told me I need to go flat out up the esses(T2-T4), while others said I wouldn't in your car... so it was the 3rd and final day that I worked up the courage to go flat! You'd think pushing the gas pedal would be easy but climbing up the esses I found the later-g actually momentarily lifts my foot of the gas pedal and had to fight to keep the pedal pinned to the floor. Once I got to doing that it was just thrilling! Spent the whole weekend practicing my patience for approaching apex of T9 before throttling. Many times against my patience I throttled too soon and throttle oversteer the car between two wall and got the car pointed where I wanted to go but it got pretty dicey. But man, the exhaust sound soooo sweet echoing between the walls! During the last run I had an exhilarating time with a GT4 in my mirror putting the pressure on me. He was there for 3 laps until he passed me and it was so much fun trying to keep up. I am no longer a WG virgin. This track has such rich history that I feel extremely fortunate to have experienced it. Until next time.

Yes flat out here
...and here. Pedal to the metal!
Popular hangout coz this track uses gas like crazy.
Finally, my new used tail pipes are of proper color
I forgot to mention that Watkins Glen is a fantastic track for exercising left foot braking. For me, LFB on T6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 in 3rd gear. LFB galore.
Got a break from work to make couple dyno runs with my new used exhaust (consist of 997.2 Cup headers, 997.2 street muffler, and 991 tips). Regardless of power this is a lusty sounding combo. Again, there are great options on the market especially with catless race versions but I'm pretty proud this combo put together on the cheap.
And the results-
Drum roll please...
Two previous runs to compare against two runs made today. Ambient temp is 30F higher today than previous runs. I trust the DynoJet SAE correction to equalize the runs. All runs made at same engine coolant and oil temp. Stock ECU tune.
Peak power is pretty much same. Both runs with the new used exhaust consistently produce 5 solid hp over stock exhaust from 7700-8100rpm. I'm happy with that. I usually short shift but at Watkins Glen it was ideal to hold the gear longer so the extra ponies wasn't wasted. And I felt it was smooth too with less dip on the curve.
Did I say I love how the 991 tips fill out the bumper? Yes I did but just wanted to say again.
Oh wait! No loss in torque. 5 ft-lbs gain from 4000-4700rpm.
Just for fun(not to offend)...my antique car to stock GT4. Sorry GT4 guys, factory left room for a better tune. We can fix that, wink-wink. With a little effort the 9A1 motor will blow the doors off my old mezg.

Speaking as the presumptive GT4 mentioned... Very much enjoyed also learning WGI along side your GT3.

It might be just a little early to consider a 997 for the "antique" category just yet. Though, I am glad that there will be options for me once you decide to undertake your mentioned engine build.
I'll bet it appears. When I first put these on my car it was almost all track driving and I didn't get the efficiency errors. But, after a few days driving around town it flagged them.

I'm using "extenders". See post #520. Ideally I should get a Cobb AP...
