Default Definitive 991 GT3-Part 2

So I am sure everyone remembers my post right after (during) last year's 24 hours of Daytona. Well, once again I tracked down the three most senior Porsche people at the 24 for info and here is what was gleaned.

10000% PDK only-Absolutely 100% no manual all three said the same thing. There is something unique about this box. It will be lightweight and there is some surprise that the motorsport people all mentioned?? Maybe maybe there will be a manual offered for the RS but it is not decided yet.

Motor-we talked for a long time with head of motorsport about this. Chris Harris posted that 991 Cup will get Gt1 block but next GT3 wont. Well the good news is....the engine isnt the 9A1. It is a new motorsport motor with DFI. 9a2?? It will rev to 9K with titanium con rods etc like out engines have. 460-486 hp for Gt3 with 3.8 and 4.0 liter 500hp for RS.

150-180 lb loss of weight below my 997.2 GT3 through use of lightweight components.

PDCC standard with torque vectoring.
Rear steer is not decided yet. One guy said yes, the other 2 said no.
Figure 140k base price for base car.
They seemed very excited about the car and said it will be spectacular. We will see!

THANK YOU!

PDK only is bad.
8speed?
Upgraded 9a1 ok, whatever.
150lbs weight loss would be massive!
PDCC and Torque vector ing can't be good.
140k so RS 165-170...

It going to look beautiful inside and out, but I don't see anything good except weight loss...

New motorsport motor that's not good enough for the 991 Cup. Yeah right.

PDK only? We'll see. If so expect a BMW M5-style change of heart after the unholy bashing they'll endure.

Possibly but if so, Porsche will do it right.
The BMW reversal was an after-thought abortion. The 6 spd MT was a mismatch for the S85 engine. The SMG III was a proper match (gearing) for the V10. I know b/c I own an E60M5.

Great info, thanks.

I feel sorry if someone wants a MT and can't get it, but frankly I'd order PDK anyway. This will be a modern high performance car and deserves the highest tech available. Sorry, MT's are "been there, done that": for over 40 years in my case.

A new DFI motorsport lump that revs to 9K, produces at least 460HP, and will no doubt be the baseline for a new competition engine; someone explain to me again why this is a bad thing?

Big weight loss!

I know there are skeptics, but technology isn't necessarily a bad thing. The key to stuff like PDCC and PTV is how they are implemented. I expect Porsche will do it right in this car. Some interesting comments by experienced drivers on PDCC in the 991 forum.

I expected $130-135K on the price but with PDK and PDCC standard, $140K is in the ballpark. The devil is in the details, but this all sounds like good news to me. My prediction: once all the details and performance parameters are known there will be a fair amount of backtracking by those who are predicting doom and gloom.

Elephant meet Room

Will it have Centerlock wheels…

If it has Centerlock wheels and a PDK I predict a riot from anyone who knows anything, but street driving Porsche Fanatics will love it!

No manual? No thanks.

Would rather lose a few tenths to have more fun with a car requiring real interaction to drive. Flappy paddles don't do it for me.

140 base + 20 options + 15 market price adjustment = 175 likely sticker .. which is still good value compared to a pre-owned MP4. I could totally live with PDK if they improve the UI. The Maserati has sold me on paddles.

I'm in for flappy paddles, loved it on the M5 with SMG and PDK is a big jump forward.

A 'M sport' type diff would be nice to which I think PDCC standard with torque vectoring is.

What is different or lighter than a C2s with the CUP aero option, PDK and the rest of the alfabet? At least It does not cost more, so just some engine internals justify the GT3 badge now I suppose. At least with a C2s you can leave crap off..

I'm not getting it. I guess I will have to drive it and see if a manual will be avail in the RS. I bet it will.

One of the things that has puzzled me:

991 "GT3" rumors - No more motorsports engine, PDK only
991 RS rumors - Good ol' Mezger, 6MT optional

These aren't really compatible because the Mezger will not mate to PDK, so it would be a bit strange for Porsche to sell a PDK only GT3 and a 6MT-only RS with zero powertrain/gearbox overlap between the two cars, knowing that the RS has to pip the standard GT3 in every acceleration measure, as well as lap times.

Perhaps this "new" engine can mate to the harder, better, faster, stronger PDK AND a manual transmission (which hopefully won't be the 7MT, but the G50-derived unit from the 997 GT3 cars).

And hopefully this new engine will win a few 24 hour endurance races...

All you guys who hate paddles ... stop it.
This will be a great car. It will be fast ... faster.
We have not even heard of what suspension/chassis work Porsche has brought to the table with this car.
Stop hating paddles.
