Haven't seen yours either!

I have seen Kaamacat's RS in Dahlonega; we chatted for a bit outside a restaurant after I pulled in to look it over. This was probably March or maybe April.

Every time I take my 4.0 RS out for a drive I am amazed at how hard it pulls in comparison to the 3.8 RS I had. The engine feels so tightly wound and alive. Even though I think the car is perfection with regard to handling I'm sure the 991 will be a faster but maybe less playful handler. But..... I think it is going to be hard for the new engine to beat the current 4.0 for quite some time. The current 4.0 engine is quite the masterpiece.

Thread revival since this is the 'Definitive 991 GT3 Thread' after all. There's got to be something new to add, no?

Don't be surprised to see the 991 GT3 offered with 6-speed manual in addition to PDK. New Cayman makes it clear that they're not wedded to 7-speed manual:

I think they might argue that you would have to "upgrade" to the 991 to get the all-new, even better, PDK-inspired manual. Didn't the GT3 have a different transmission than the other 996 and 997 cars, one developed from the 993 GT2? We'll probably never see that one again..

Based on the cost of PDK with sports chrono (to get PDEM), PDCC and PTV; base price will likely be about $10K more than this. Also with the introduction of the S powerkit a regular S sticker can now surpass $150K, this is another indication that GT3 stickers will see a significant rise.

BTW, Sport Auto only got a 8:44 ring time out a a 991S PDK, not quite meeting Porsche's claims. This is though only 4 seconds slower than what they got in a 997.2 GT3, 4 seconds faster than they got in a 997.1 GT3 and 6 seconds faster than they got in a 997.2 S w/PDK and sport suspension.

The engine in the 991 GT3 is DEFINITELY a 9A1 based engine as the PDK can't matte up to a Metzger engine. It is planned to be a 4.0L (9A1 3.8l block with 9A1 3.6l crank) and hence the RS 4.0L real purpose was not only to say farewell to the Metzger engines, but also to introduce the next models displacement. The Metzger engine's death is even confirmed with the recent purchase by Porsche of enough Metger engine blocks to support just 2 years of their race program. It is going to be disappointing to see a GT3 that doesn't have a common engine with the GT3 with the RSR and Cup cars.
Hi 10GT3,

Well written post - could have been from me too..exactly my opinion.

to put a bit more facts on the table about this Sport Auto test:
1) the 991 had PDCC (what time would it have done without PDCC?)
2) the 991 had heavily modified suspension - in way you would never get it as normal customer
3) Tires: the tires were tires that were designed for stricly dry grip. It was 17sec. slower on a 1,2Km track then the 997.2S. I repeat - 17seconds - slower then 997.2 ..and way off 997.2GT3
4) In no element, the 991S could beat the 997.2GT3, whether it was braking distance, slalom--even in consumption I think it was worse! (see also direct comparison from EVO car between 997.2GT3 and 991S (Tiff Needell)

Yes, the 991S could be very close to GT3..but it would need all the options..with ends up at 140K...without all these options its way off.

Coming to Porsches lap times, for the 981 boxster Porsche mentioned 7:58, test revealed: 8:04, for GT2RS Porsche said: 7:18 . test showed 7:24..and so on. If you believe everything a manufacturer tells you...

991GT3: If it can shave off about 5-8seconds it would already be alot. If it could do that it would already be very close to Mclaren territory..and in no way it could be as fast as the Mclaren MP4-12C...with 620HP (!). The Mclaren was tested at 7:28 and this one ranks among the best. Aventador was tested at 7:25. 997.2 GT3 at 7:40 and 997.2GT3RS at 7:33.

We will see, I predict that realistically the 991 GT3 will shave off 7 seconds. The RS will do more of course..but more is not in there. If you think a simple 991 GT3 would be able to beat a Mclaren with 620HP..youre in the wrong forum ..in fact that I would advise you to get appointment with the next doctor..

From my dealer, after some big corporate meeting: The 991 GT3 will be available in Nov 2013, will have 450hp, and a base price of $135k.

Turn the volume up and enjoy! BTW, I want both

Did they mention if it would have hydraulic steering and only PDK?

Hi Ray,

More or less the same info I have..but in Europe prices will be higher and the car will probably be introduced 2-3 months earlier.

10GT3 mentioned that it will be a 4.0L..hmm...from what I heard it will be a 3.8L..but we will see.

Hi Chago 996,

Yes..thats what I ment. However, one more comment on the 991 tires..if you call them OE tires..fine...but read agian what the famous test writes about these tires.

For me it doesnt matter how a tire is called...but it matters what it can do. And in the wet testing circuit the GT3 was much faster with its track tires..strange..isnt it?

The tires of a 997 GT3 or GT2 are already at the limit..in heavy rain youre forced to drive like a lame duck..even trucks start horning at you..

Yes thats the 1 Million Dollar question. My latetst info said that it will be available also with manual ..but we never know.

I cannot imagine that Porsche will use the e-steering. BMW took it out of its M Models (at least the M6, Im not sure abou the M3).

All the new M models (including the 2014 M3 with Twin or Triple Turbo I6) will have electric power steering.
