C.J.

Well said, very articulate and nice infusion of recent product platform announcement (961) into a logical and well balanced argument with a number of great points. I for one agree with all of them.

Times are a changing....

If I remember the history correctly, Porsche AG didn't expect their consumer GT3 market to be all that successful beyond the homologation of the 996 platform. It's a variant of the 911 that appeals to a specific group of customers. If the 991 GT3 is not differentiated (race technology) from the c2s I don't believe it will be successful. It would open up the segment for other manufacturers. I think Porsche understands this segment - I don't think we will be disappointed in the 991 GT3!

Another good point is the analogy from race and street cars. In the past they were pretty much the ''same'' cars, and this is coming to an end. 996 were still somewhat the same cars GT3vsCUP, 997 introduced the race only Hollinger gearbox (sequential) but shared the same front suspension/geometry, the same base engine, tube so at my point of view very similar cars.
Right now this is about to be over.
Speculations are that the First SuperCups will have it's predecessor 997.2Cup drivetrain, we will know for sure in a few months.
I'm forced to believe that the similarities between the street GT3 (991) will be far from similar to the Cup (991)

Going back, disappointed not really, it will for sure be a great car, faster than the current, but different.

Same size brake disks in the back and the front?

20" rims (ooh the tyre cost )

Same center lock system

I sure hope they put a bigger spoiler on it. Can hardly tell the difference between the GT3's and the Carrera parked next to them

Thanks folks, good insights and information as always. I appreciate it.

From the new spy pictures, seems the new 991 GT3 is not far from ready to release.

I like the front end. Those centerlocks don't seem to be locked properly

Good point, I can't recall ever haven seen this much about the GT3 prior to really much about the Turbo. Seems Porsche are in more of a hurry to get the vehicles to market. Since it's a completely new model, there is no need to build the anticipation. Plus the quicker to market, the more they can sell. This also could mean there are far fewer differences in the model line, which could be bad.

IMO Porsche is treading on thin ice. If people can buy a 991S and add some hp, a few suspension bits (likely control arms) and an aero kit and have an equal to a GT3. The tuner industry could really do some damage to their profits. At that point, having a GT3 is about vanity. There had better be some significant differences.

Maybe this time, Porsche waits on the Turbo and returns it to prominence with a car that actually handles well. Think about an AWD GT2, there is no reason the 997.2 Turbo (s) should be so much slower than the GT2 (rs) or slower than the GT3's period.

Anyone notice out of the 3 centerlock wheels one can see detail on, at least two do not have their splines properly set? Including the right rear, gives me the *******.

Crazy even porsche test engineers cannot proper "maintain" the street CL's!

A September 29th introduction sounds INCREDIBLY OPTIMISTIC TO ME.

I have it on good authority that the car is still a minimum of 1 year away and possibly 2.

I'd agree to an MSRP base price of about 15% over the 2010 and I'd imagine that a well specced GT3 (non RS) will be in the $160 range.

I definitely think we will be seeing this car in march 2013 Geneva and I have it on good authority deliveries will start in August 2013. It would be a shock surprise to see in end of September in Paris and likely will not happen I guess.

I think the rear spoiler you see is not the final spoiler well see on the production car.

The 9A1 engine choice makes sense in light of PDK. The fact the SuperCup uses the older engine as a gap filler for a year does not mean we wont see a variant of the 9A1 engine in production racing tune for the 2014 season. The Cup cars unfortuantely have to be ready much earlier in the producton cycle.

I remember when I owned the 993RS we were all dissapointed how the 996 GT3 had moved away from the air cooled racing heritage by using a water cooled head and only retaining the old bottom end. Time and technology moves on and now people don't question this. I suspect same will be true for 9A1.

Split case engine design is nearly 50 years old now, the 9A1 is the future and I imagine that the GT3 engine will have upgraded components and as much as the Metzger engine is admired now, the new one will be even better. 9A1 is just a better platform moving forward and I think people are going to love it when it arrives. I CAN'T WAIT!

If it can make as much to more power, and be as reliable, and is lighter, what's not to like?

I have to assume everything but the reliability is a given.

Who says that the 2013 991 Cups are going to run the old Mezger block?

I guess that Supercup 2013 will be the last ultimate test for the new 9A1-platform before it goes out to the customers in the Street-GT3's from the beginning of August 2013...

I also think that the new wing on the 991 GT3 is going to be more like the 997.2-non-RS-wing was and not that crappy Aerokit-thing they use for testing right now.

We'll see... Maybe the 991 Cup will be shown in Paris this year! Would make sense if they're already delivering it in December and running it next year...

And if the Cup is there, we'll definetely know more. Cups and Street-GT3's had always the same origin, so the tech-specs should be very similar on those two cars.
