I developed the bore scoping procedure through the sump due to constant mis- diagnoses from shops and delaers only testing the cylinders through the spark plug hole. Almost all bore scoring starts at the bottom of cylinders, and with the piston at BDC to allow the spark plug hole inspection, the piston ends up covering up the damaged area. The tech then tells the owner that no bore scoring is detected.

Then the symptoms continue, and I end up performing a sump inspection, and find the issue in 30 minutes.

This is a classic.. Any bore scope inspection must end with a sump inspection, IF a spark plug hole inspection shows no issues. There’s no other way to judge the entire travel of the cylinder wear surface.

Terrible thread bump to make. My 997.2 9A1 is scored at 75k miles. Fortunately I am covered by Fidelity. I'll get into details soon but I've got a timely question to ask:
Should I replace the injectors? I'm thinking yes. What does that consist of when doing in complete.? Price ballpark I could expect to pay?

Have a new Porsche long block on the way. Would've gone with flat6 had I been caught with my pants down and in control of the situation. TIA

I wasn't aware Porsche had any longblocks. Complete engines haven't been available for quite sometime, unless something has changed. As with the M96, they offer shortblocks and the shop would have to complete the engine to a longblock. There is a factory tool to remove the injectors, however sometimes the injectors do not want to come out. I would indeed put new ones if they are re-using the heads and I would also have the heads rebuilt, as every 9A1 head we've ever seen has had worn out guides.

These cars are now hitting 10 years of age and this was about the same time that we started seeing an influx of cylinder failures with the M96 engines, for what it is worth.

Would have been happy to help, had you been able to wait for us...

Who knows if they have changed anything with the bores on these latest engines. If it happens to you again, then we'll know.

Did cylinder 1 feature the bore scoring?

Good information, thanks Charles. For what its worth I tried to angle a 4.0 nickies sleeve through you. I looked at my shop quote again says long block 91A00901RX --- you have me wondering

They likely don't know what to look for with the cylinder heads when it comes to wear.

Do you work with Fidelity warranty now? I had read before that you only work with LaSalle. Honest question, as I have Fidelity as well, and was curious if I ever have this problem (hope not).

Hell no!
I'd rather bash my head into the wall as to try and work with an engine claim with anyone other than LaSalle.

The last time I accepted an aftermarket warranty other than LaSalle was 2009. I turn away work every week if a warranty company is in the mix. I won't even talk about it.

Ok, thanks for clarifying. I just mentioned that cause the guy with the engine problem here (T4S)...he mentioned he had a Fidelity warranty.
