I rarely see any good deals! Most of the posts seem overpriced or are scams. One of the recent deals posted here, the atlas grey 997.1 C2S, at $31,500 is still for sale.

I would rather own the one listed on PCA last week with 19,000 miles for $74,900.

Default Clear coat

Just took a look at an 07 c2s. It clearly had some paint work done (front and rear bumpers and gas cap), but just behind both doors, where the rubber meets the paint (where the yellow arrow is pointing), it looks as if the clear coat is peeling. It was just a one inch by 1/4 inch strip, but it was on both sides. Does this mean that the entire car had been resprayed? Thanks for the help.

Would be easier to assess if you took some photos.

Most folks are looking for 997.2’s at this point, and imho some great deals have been posted lately.

What's wrong with the 997.1?

Nothing wrong, but some things to be aware of. You've been around long enough to know. With the newer DFI engine, PDK (if not manual) and updated PCM, the .2 is a better car.

Just wanted to have a discussion about the pros and cons of the 997.1. I personally am staying away from the 05' unless I have plans to upgrade the IMSB. After much research on the 06-08 I am not afraid of the IMS fiasco. A thorough PPI to make sure the core engine is solid and you're good to go. The only concern I have is in the long run say 10 years from now will people frown upon them due to the present of the IMSB....? I'm planning to keep my 911 for a long time.
I know the 997.2 has the new design DFI engine and a better car but there's a premium price attached. My wife is already on my case about getting a 997.1 and if I get the 997.2 she will go bizerk!

Maybe start a new thread? I think it has been at least a few days since a 997.1 versus .2 thread has been posted, possibly time for another...

No, it does not mean the entire car has been resprayed. If you want to know that info, best bet is to get a paint meter and put it on the car. Car should read somewhere in the 100-200 range. Preferably right around 120-150 microns. You wont be able to get a paint meter to work on the bumpers though unless you get a special meter which is very expensive. Do remember, it is a 10 year old car and unless it had a clear bra on it from day one, having a front respray at the minimum is going to be somewhat common and other panels might as well. If it hasn't had a respray then you might notice that there are going to be an increased number of chips and small little scratches which may or may not bother you. Just something to keep in mind. I would try and find a car though with as little paintwork as possible.

Both are fantastic cars, but I do agree. The 997.2 took what I would already consider a perfect car and made it more reliable. People on here can actually argue why a 997.2 is better over a 991.1 or why a 991.1 is better than a 991.2 (if you want an NA engine), but I dont think there is much to be argued for in the 997.1 over the 997.2, except for the fact that it is more fully depreciated. Oh and to anyone that has a 997.1, you have an amazing car, especially since they are fully depreciated more or less. I was just saying that if someone was saying they had $60k to spend and could either get a 997.1 or a 997.2, I would tell them to pick the 997.2.
