Ours used to be approx $100/year, but they are now free!

That is true highway robbery. Although I guess they use all that money to keep the roads in great shape.

I'm in the midst of replacing the "Low Tone" horn on my 997.2. I've finished replacing the horn and cleaning the radiators, which I thought were cleaner than they were, until
I pulled the bumper . I don't know about you gents, but this car is really an enigma when it comes to different types of maintenance. I just finished replacing the serpentine
belt and engine mounts. The engine mounts were ridiculously easy to replace, while the serpentine belt was very fiddley...... And having to remove the front bumper, which entails
removing the fender liners (and those crazy metal clips by the headlights) is another fiddley job just to replace a horn, but so be it. With that said, this is still the easiest car to perform
an oil change on out of any car that I've ever worked on....

Those clips are easy if you use a punch against the flat part and just gently tap the punch with a hammer.

Picked her up today after having water pump, low temp thermostat, AOS, AOS lines, starter / alternator cable, starter and front tires (P4S) installed. I originally planned to DIY all but the tires but didn't want to wait for warm weather (no garage).

The difference in how quickly she starts up now is sooo satisfying.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. The grill suggestion while the bumper off is a good idea.
Petza, thanks for the tip on re-inserting the clips. That one still had me a little concerned .
As always, taking things apart is easier than putting them back together. I'm sure it will be fine, but while wresting out the fender liners, all I could think of was how "interesting" it was going to be to get everything back in place as it was before.
I'll get everything right, no doubt, but I'm anticipating a little bit of a tussle . But as i said to someone who doesn't wrench on their car, it's not really a true project unless there's a little bit of head scratching, cussing, and then a cold beer once all is done!

These cars are so over engineered I enjoy working on these cars. I took my front bumper off for the first time last weekend and was also thinking the reassemble would be “fun” but it went back very easily.

Next weekend is the rear bumper removal for spark plugs and maybe gundo… rear bumper looks really simple.

Rear bumper is definitely an easy job and makes spark plug replacement easier.
Also, I strongly recommend the gundo hack

I removed the heat shields and mufflers for even easier spark plug access.

Its nice to work on something that comes apart and goes back together nicely. Good fit ups and no rusty low grade fasteners that break easily. Take your time, torque things correctly and its quite satisfying.
(of course Im not speaking of some of those cheap recycled (bmw) goddammnnned pos plastic parts that you do occasionally encounter.)

Default Some of you may not like this… Some of you might.

Here in the land of Aloha they charge by weight in addition to "fees". My 997 has the lowest registration cost, my 2003 BMW 540i the highest. All of them are now 350-450. My neighbor has an older F-150, $700/year. And our roads are ****e.

Those fees are nuts! I pay $70-75 per vehicle except the 911 with the vanity plate. That was $400 for 5 years plus registration at $70-$75 a year.
