Yesterday I picked up my 997 from a local shop who did the PA state safety inspection:

Funny how the emissions exemption cost more than the safety inspection? My old sticker expired 4/20 but due to covid-19 the state PENNDOT said "Vehicle registrations (including apportioned and fleet registrations), safety inspections and emissions inspections scheduled to expire from March 16 through May 31, 2020, the expiration date is now extended until June 30, 2020. These products will not be extended past June 30, 2020. "

https://www.penndot.gov/pages/coronavirus.aspx

My local shop said customers have been flooding them with urgent inspection requests and next year it will be the same story since 1/4 of the cars on the road will expire 6/21.

While things are apart at the level they currently are, installed the Function First orange (softest) transmission mount inserts. My OEM mount was still solid and in good condition where I could reinforce and prolong it's life using these inserts, plus tighten up any transmission movement. Install is pretty straightforward - remove under trays, support front of trans, remove 2 trans mount bolts, remove forward trans mount carrier (4 nuts), remover upper trans mount carrier (2 nuts), slilicone grease the inserts, install, and reinstall everything with blue loctite and 48 ft.lbs. or torque.

Finally picked up my inner sills, instead of going for leather I decided on something a bit different, alcantara with red stitching: the alcantara to match the lower dash and steering wheel and the red stitching to match the deviated belts. I’ll see how they hold up!

Pete, I’d be interested to know how the NVH is now you’ve installed the mounts, I installed the RSS engine mounts last month and the tech advised me to do the transmission mount asap as this is now the weakest point in the setup and will suffer from wear that bit quicker than with a stock setup.

Ni_Mo I believe FF suggests either the engine or transmission mounts for street cars. I assume the NVH with both must be headache inducing after reading that.

I'll for sure let y'all know, but it will be a while yet. I have a bunch of stuff removed in the engine compartment currently, including the alternator and supercharger while I sort out an oil leak and rich fueling condition and haven't been working on it any too quickly as I'd rather be water skiing and motocross riding and have a bunch of other cars to drive around while this one sits on the lift. Been apart since March and haven't driven it since last October. Been doing a couple hour job at a time.

I installed those same transmission inserts a few months ago (the softest ones) It seemed to be a worthwhile project.

Shift action feels more crisp--almost like an extremely mild shift kit installed in an older automatic transmission. It is just noticeable enough that I don't think it is placebo effect.

I did not notice any additional NVH with the transmission mount inserts. Keep in mind that I have stock engine mounts. If you have aftermarket solid engine mounts this may exacerbate the additional NVH you get from those.

I am expecting more nvh with also installing the transmission mount, but as it’s not my daily I welcome a bit more of a GT sounding/feeling car.
I’ve also read that the engine mounts “settle” after about 500 miles. Hopefully I’ll install them sometime next week so I’ll give some feedback too!

Finally rectifying my “Mega Rock Chip” incident... took my hood off and explained to the painter what I was looking for. We talked about some test panels to see how the paint “flipped” as a metallic. $750 and they will have it done next Wednesday.

That price really makes one think twice about putting $2,000 worth of Xpel PPF on the front end....

So we looked into that, and it would have been a full restoration at that point (lots more dollars). They did an amazing job, because who ever had the car before me destroyed the paint (flaking clear coat etc).

So I took a chance and tried these wheels out of Hong Kong. They took 15 days to be built and another 10 days to get to me.

They look amazing in person! I just liked the look of the GT3 wheel design and wanted something similar, i only drive the car a few days a month. The quality is on par with mid range wheel companies like Stance Wheels, Rohanna Wheels, Ferrada Wheels etc.

Specs: Front 19x8.5 et54 (I added a 10mm spacer) & Rear 19x11 et48 no spacer needed.. Michelin Pilot Sports 4S 235/35/19 front & 305/30/19 rear.

New Head Unit fitted, Sony XAV-AX100. I'm very impressed with it, especially the volume/voice **** as I don't have a multi function wheel.
