Too bad you all missed the great seat belt debates.
There was big bad government interfering with private industry, forcing the automakers to install seat belts and stop making dashboards out of substances that stab you in the heart.
There were undoubtably the naysayers calling for their right to keep on being ejected through the windshield.
Naysayers, predicting how seat belts would undermine essential freedoms.
Which socialist was it that signed the Highway safety act ?

lol no. I'm all for added safety features. But one thing that draws me to cars is the sound they make. Like a GT3 with a muffler bypass or a LP670 or a Zonda F or a DBS, etc.

Way its going, all cars will be a 4-cylinder and maybe 6 with FI. FI doesn't sound as good as NA. Diesel's sound completely different. Hybrids are straight up annoying with the engine turning off and on constantly. Full plug in electrics like a tesla don't even make any sound. That's not a future to get excited about...

If there were alternative energy options being developed over the past 100 years, I'm sure we'd have options to select from. Unfortunately, there are no alternatives because oil is a monopoly.

In 100 years, it will be a different picture. I am certain there will be means of transportation to be really excited about. But for now, unfortunately, there are no good alternatives for car enthusiasts.

Come on? You should not compromise your beliefs. Go ahead sell your Porsche. Drive a Prius or use public transportation. But be consistent in your beliefs.

I've been dreaming of owning a 911 one day since I was 4. That was when I first saw this amazing 964 and asked my dad what it was. As I grew up I collected 911 models and I have Porsche posters all over my room. This dream was one of the things that motivated me to study hard in school. I've been on this forum for a long time but I usually don't post. I just graduated from college this past december and I start Med School in July.

Now the car world has been depressing me for quite some while. All manufacturers are downsizing engines. Adding forced induction. And more importantly, it seems that the manual transmission is going to become extinct. Now I have about 10 years of school and training left before I will start working. Then another 5 years or so after that to pay off loans and get a savings going and make sure my family is taken care of before I can start buying nice cars. But I'm sad because by the time I have enough money to buy the cars I dreamed about, they will all be extinct it seems. High-revving manual sports cars with amazing sound tracks. I'm not that interested PDK yet. It seems like the future is full of four-cylinders and hybrids and diesels.

Even Ferrari stated that they will be releasing a hybrid version of EVERY model car they make within 3 years.

15 years is far off, but It doesn't look like there is much to look forward to in the car world anymore. (not to mention significantly lower physician salaries, but that's a whole different subject.) But I can say that as of today, there are very few cars made currently that can get my blood boiling. And that's a shame.
You want a hybrid 911? A hybird Corvette or Ferrari? I doubt you will want one. You'll be doing what the rest of us will be doing if this comes to pass - you'll be buying pre-owned sports cars for the rest of your life.

But that will only go so far. I'm young, and 35-40 years from now, I don't want to be forced into buying classic sports cars with much higher maintenance. All I can hope as that we will come out of this green phase or they will let low volume car makers keep producing whatever they want. Or they could at least tax gas guzzling sports cars a little bit. I'm sure if they said, "ok all new 911's will have a 10k tax", most owners would gladly pay that amount just to keep their flat 6.

I don't know about you all, but I LIKE my carbon footprint! I plant it at least twice a day! The bigger the better. Sorry, 'greenies', but I'm only going to be alive maybe another forty years at most, I intend to enjoy it.

10 K tax for a car that is getting 24+ Hwy where the gas guzzler. By 2016 the 911 will be doing better on gas. Now hit the F-150,250,350 and larger trucks I own a few of those they have to be used to work. And yes I pass the cost on down the line its called business . Want hit the abusers try Hummers and large SUV's leave the Sports Cars alone. We are the ones spending our hard earned money.

Yes a new Admin is on the Horiz. But who will it be. The few greenies talk louder than we do so they will still get the attn. No matter who is in charge. I guess we better enjoy while can and be glad that Porsche is moving foward with cars like the 918. May have a battery but does it not have a nice high Hp engine. I think I will get use to that very quick maybe there will be a quick disconnect for battery and we will only have to use them at inspection station

We all know its just in fun. The differing views make us all use our Brains. There is no right or wrong just different folks

We cant stop Progress. We dont have to like it or embrace it. Just do whats right for us. Until they try and take it away. Then we fight or die. I choose to fight.
