Default Letting friends drive your car?

Hello. I'm new to this forum (because I never owned a porsche until November!). I have a 2006 carrera 2S in arctic silver. Anyway, my question is do you let your friends/family drive your car if they ask to? If not, how do you approach this issue in answering them? I work with physicians and over the years heard of 2 instances (both involving porsche 911's) where the physician let their friend drive their car and resulted in crashes (both totalling the cars). So I'm going into this with a lot of caution at this point and not planning on anyone driving it (other than my wife who is a very careful driver, although she refuses to drive it even though I've been encouraging her to). Thoughts?

Welcome Jonah. Oh no not this discussion again. Next it will be do you let people drink coffee or eat in your car. Do you drive in the rain or snow. How much do you make. What kind o watch do you have. Did you pay cash..... ok ok ok those are just some of my favorites. Personally I let people drive my car. I dont loan it out though or to be driven extensively without me in it.

Owning a Porsche would be boring if I didn't let my friends share in all the fun. My SO enjoys driving it and is welcome to any time she likes.

It's just a car, people. If I ever become the kind of guy that's so **** about an object that I won't let a responsible friend use it, just shoot me, 'cause I'll already be dead inside.

Welcome to the forum! Congratulations to your car! Post pictures soon!

Pred8tor is right, this is something that has been discussed quite a lot in this forum. As always and with everything, different people have different preferences, and there are no right or wrong answers, just opinions (and some experiences).

Here are the results from a really quick search (I think there's more out there):

I like to only keep friends around that I can trust and yes, I do let them drive it. My brother on the other hand would likely not get a shot. Not that I don't like him, I just don't trust that he would be as considerate and drive it within its' limits (no overrevving, etc).

Soulteacher, you are a good replacement for OCBen if there ever was. A much kinder version where we aren't told how to search but provided the links.

Well, I hope it comes across the way it is intended. I have been around long enough to remember some of the topics that newbies simply cannot be aware of. And sometimes saying "search it" does not work, because you really don't get good results if you don't know what exactly you are supposed to search for. For example, there's now way I could have found Ronmart's thread in this context if I hadn't remembered to search for 'trailer hitch' (which is what his friend bumped into when he drove Ron's car). Live and learn.

My wife drives the Porsche but I would not let a friend drive the Porsche unless I was in it and it would be a quick ride around.

Totally agree. I enjoy letting friends and family experience the drive for themselves. My cayman has been to napa for two different weekends without me. However, I am selective as to who I let take it out, only old friends and family who are responsible.

I would and do let my friends drive the car, but def only when I am in it. However, other than my wife, no one takes the car without me in it, and that was true for the M3 as well. Unless it is an emergency, I just don't need the headache of someone borrowing a car of mine and having something happen to it.

I don't fart in my own car, even with the top down.

I let friends drive mine, it's no big deal. It's just a car.
