Default Doesn't seem to be many 997.2s for sale

Being retired I spend too much time watching BaT, PCar and other 'for sale' sites. Over the last year, I've seen a few 997.2s sell, but it seems like 997.2s are outnumbered by 996s, 997.1s, 991s & 992s. Just wondering what others think. (FWIW, I have a 2011 C2S w/ 23k miles).

The 997.2 supply is definitely limited. Have to know where to look.

Production numbers for .2 cars was half .1. I believe it was approximately 15K units sold in the US for .1 and a little over 7K units sold for .2 cars. Manual .2 cars are even more rare as most were configured and sold with PDK.

*Edit: total global 997 production numbers:

997.1 = 136,745
997.2 = 76,259

I'm not sure my US numbers are accurate, especially in light of global production numbers. I suspect many more than 7K 997.2 cars were sold in the US. But you get the point that .2 production was 55% of .1 production.

23k miles on an 11 year old car. Methinks you should spend less time watching those sites and more of your retired time driving you C2S.

FWIW, I also have a 17 4S with about 60K that gets me around.

There were very few when I was searching almost two years ago, normally 2-4 MT Coupes for sale at any given time.

Most were PDK, even though dealers would mark them as manual (grrrrr).

Luckily found mine on PCA Mart.

Most annoying part of looking for a used (or new) Pcar is listings incorrectly labeled as manual.

Exactly, I am so glad Vin Analytics exists.

1) Get email from Cars.com about a new listing matching my criteria (incl manual).

2) Go to ad, confirm manual, pics not uploaded.

3) Copy and paste vin into Vin Analytics

4) Sigh.

Repeat this about 50 times.

With any 997 first thing I look at is photo of interior to confirm Manual. Many times it's a PDK

2007 and 2008 were big years for the 997.1. Then the financial crisis arrived and had a significant impact on sports cars and other expensive items. So 2009,2010 and 2011 would be expected to have lower production numbers. And, as the financial crisis hit the US worse than the EU I would expect that there would be fewer 997.2s here. I purchased my 2008 in 2009 when many folks were getting rid of their expensive toys ( sports cars, boats, etc.)

Yep, have to laugh when someone has .2 purchase requirements including color. Good luck, be long wait. Only 796 of my config mfg’d for all markets. Not many more for other configs. Many owners like me that will never sell while living. I also have small trust to maintain car, lake house, and boat for my boys to bring families to party; number available to buy even smaller. Boys love the car and since no expense to them doubt will sell.

Quick math shows 997.2 numbers.

2517 Carrera S
1909 Carrera 4S
2592 Carrera S Cab
1910 Carrera 4S Cab
1500 Total GTS models
Didn't bother with regular Carrera's or specialty cars like Targa's. Should give you a ballpark number for US sold cars though. You can fight it out amongst yourselves about manuals and PDK's......and which oil is best for each model.

YES!!! Drives me nuts. Are the people posting those dumb and don't know the difference or are they smart because they know they'll get more clicks and maybe even pull in someone one the fence?

A manual 977.2 is a unicorn. Seems like they all came with PDKs. I looked/waited for a 5-6 months and found nothing that interested me so I got a 997.1 instead.

As someone who had a specific color in mind (Racing Green/Sand Beige), I looked for a LONG time! I've actually seen more green .2's come up for sale in the last 6 months than the prior two years I looked. I still haven't seen an non-turbo Racing Green .2 come up for sale. The stupid part is I still look!

Took me a year to find mine, same color combo. “Settled” for a C4 but no regrets. Seems to be easier to find a coupe than a cab since it was a launch edition for coupes.
