A lot of us prefer this camera, if you don’t Mind drilling a hole in the rear bumper.

I used that one or one like it. It allowed for a connector at the right tail light so it can be easily disconnected if I take the bumper off. 9xx pulled the bumper to get exact centering and alignment so they would be sure the direction and steering lines would be correct.

Getting through the forward grommet without risking damage to the existing wiring was a bit tedious. Have spare clamps to reinstall the inside trim under the rear window since you will probably break a few. Removing the umbrella holder makes routing easier.

The CANBus signal may vary between MT and PDK, 2009 vs later, etc. Anthony played with his PIWIS examining the bus data to verify what was going on. He has this dialed in now.

Full disclosure ... I have no financial interest in 9xx. But I have met Anthony, worked alongside him in my garage installing my unit, given him the keys to my 997.2 for a spirited drive, and changed the oil in his Panamera. I consider Anthony to be a friend and I believe in his product, organization, and commitment to what he is doing. So, yes, I may be biased!!!

Thanks for the tip, Wayne. Would you happen to have the part number for the clamps? My install with Anthony is coming up in a few weeks!

The part number is 999 507 687 05 (fixing clip). I'll bet Anthony will have some. He takes great pride in his work.

Default 9XX CarPlay and rearview camera

Anthony of 9XX Research
finished my install of his solution for adding CarPlay
and rearview camera to my 2010 C2S cabriolet.
the rearview appears on the screen as soon as the
reverse is engaged on my 6MT. This is really nice.
CarPlay operates like expected and I can toggle it
off to resume full functionality of the PCM.
This is a fantastic product offered by and installed
by 9XX Research.

Anthony, founder/inventor of 9XX Research just installed CarPlay and a rear camera on my 997.2 C4S today (yes, he drove from Georgia to the west coast in his hybrid Panamera to ensure it was done right --that says a lot about his level of passion and personal commitment). Besides bringing updated functionality to our 997s, the 9XX Research products are designed to further enhance the Bose sound system when playing digital music well above it was before the install. And the back up camera is incredibly clear and incorporates turning guides from the steering info provided in the CANbus...and the display on the PCM pops with vibrant colors. What a difference! Plus you get taught from the master himself, Anthony Wong! Hands down one of the best upgrades and 911 learning experiences over any other by far! If you're thinking about adding this modern functionality to your 997....look no further.

great job. i wonder if its a 997.2 thing where these aftermarket android canbus units can send the steering wheel angle info to teh pcm. mine, and for my brothers car (997.1) - they can not. or perhaps its our canBus adapter

the rear camera can be routed + installed without bumper removal. but either way, great job + congrats. having a modern pcm + a rear camera does ALOT for the 997.

These new units require the .2 PCM. Someone wrote a while back that they had an adaptor harness to allow a .2 PCM to be installed in a .1 car. I suspect there are some .2 PCMs gathering dust on people's shelves. But harness plus PCM plus upgrade unit could be pricey.

Whether the steering angle is available on the .1 cars or not is beyond my pay grade. Do you know for sure this is not available on your cars? Or is the back up camera interface you're using not equipped to read it?

Definitely removing the rear bumper is not required to install the camera. But Anthony feels he can better center and align the camera with the bumper off, so this is how he does it. I wonder how the camera that takes the place of the license plate light aligns. It seems like that would be a good solution.

Just an update. a couple of months ago, 9XX sent me a new electronics box (free minor upgrade). Unfortunately, the new box rendered the backup camera non-functional. Last Monday, Anthony showed up at my front door and did a complete swap of the latest hardware/firmware/software, etc. I now have a functional backup camera.

Total cost to me: $0.00!! (however, I did buy him a burrito for lunch)

Suffice it to say, the quality of the backup camera is great.
