I certainly did not mean to minimize the incredible effort and service you provided this forum with your detailed install procedure instructions. Agreed it is much more economical to DIY this install. In my case, after a great deal of consideration I determined I it was best to devote my time to other pursuits. We discussed camera options at length and the technicians were well aware of the cheaper versions available but recommended the higher quality camera based on their testing and experiences.

@jgoga great idea re taking the Subaru mod one stage further. Made up my leads. I used a shielded extension for the CarPlay just in case. Will install tomorrow if weather is good. I’m planning to run a usb extension to the glovebox where either the wireless adaptor will plug in or the phone (if on long journeys). Great to have a solution. This was what I had originally planned / hoped to do

No, I’d already bought the Subaru cable and I’ve just added a JST connector to the other end. The other cable was a shielded usb extension cable, again I’ve just added a JST connector.

Ther was no other forum or info that documented it before it was done here, in this thread and documented in the install guide here :

https://rennlist.com/forums/997-foru...diy-guide.html

1500 bucks for the install only is a massive ripoff.. it takes 4 hours at most including the camera bumper install
And maybe 50 bucks of hardware..those Ali express cameras are cheap as hell, so is wiring.
Your DIY write-up is great! That said, we did figure everything out without seeing it — having decades of experience in automotive electronics does tend to yield some knowledge and skill.

With the painstaking amount of effort that Musicar puts into the cleanliness of the wiring and the care for a customer car, this project is about 8 hours of hands-on work. Can it be done in 4 hours? Sure! But why choose speed over quality?

On top of that, using a $20 Ali-Express camera connected to a $1,300 in-dash system in a $50k car makes absolutely no sense to me — I'd rather use quality components with a track record of reliability and support we can trust.

It's only a rip-off if @snobored feels like they didn't get a good value for their investment. If they're happy with the results, isn't that what matters most?

I purchased the connectors off eBay. Very fiddly to connect up. A loupe recommended. You want the PH ones.

Scrub that!!! They are not the same. The ones in the unit are tiny! I’m going to reuse original.

Thinking about the wireless CarPlay issue, I got one of these coming from kickstarter. Plug in the front and gets MagSafe charging as well. I’m planning on mounting this on a Rennline phone mount bracket

So with this product you can plug directly into front usb and don’t need to change any wiring inside? True plug and play? That would be a great product.

That’s the promise (and my hope!). I hate having it plugged in front, but in the absence of another plug and play solution I think it jus might get me 80-90% satisfied.

All working. Thanks to all those on the thread who shared this info. Front usb now routed to glovebox and rear usb routed to front usb. :-)

I just had the PCCMP installed in my 2006 911s. It looks and mostly works great. One problem is that the AM/FM tuner is not picking up any stations. Have you heard about this issue in the past? Any thoughts?

Not an expert but just a guess--did they install the antenna bypass? I would guess it wasn't installed. AM/FM works perfectly on my 06 997S (no bose) car provided the antenna bypass is installed.
