LOL how many millions of people are in prison from using Napster?

PV997, have you done any coding with this yet? I am looking to code out seat airbags and occupancy sensors on my 997.2 and 981. My Durametric will code them out on the 997 but not my 981 so hoping this is an option vs having to go to the dealer.

PV, so I bit the bullet and ordered a clone. Should be here by next week. Fortunately one of the mechanics at my buddy’s Porsche shop used to work at the local dealer so I’m gonna utilize him for any questions and at least the first write I do since he’s well versed in PIWIS. I still need to dive in and read the entire operating manual. It’s quite a bit of reading.

I have extensive experience with the PIWIS II having programmed 20 plus modules. Let me know if you need anything. I have detailed pdk part replacement instructions. After replacing a pressure sensor or the diplacement sensor you will need to perform a calibration. You will need a high quality 55 amp battery charger with clean power for programming

Will this hardware and software combo install the Sport upgrade in a 997.1?

Got my clone in. Generated my VAL and going through it now. Got one BOSE amp fault I'm trying to diagnose and another issue with the upper driver's side lumbar that doesn't seem to be generating one. Aside from the OBD2 Connector not gripping the port as well as I'd like, the device works well.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:
If you're running the VM with VirtualBox, don't upgrade to the latest version. Not sure exactly whats going on but after I upgraded when I start PIWIS the menu is blank. If you do upgrade and it's already happened, sorry but you're screwed. I ran Microsoft Process Explorer to see if I could figure out what was being blocked that prevented the menu from populating and everything looked fine. I think the issue is when you shut down Windows there's something that gets changed when the user profile is saved and unloaded though I couldn't find anything that proves that.

If you've upgraded or plan to upgrade VBox there are two ways to prevent this from happening:
  1. Before you start the VM, take a snapshot. If you accidentally screw up and shut down the VM from Windows you can restore from the snapshot and all will be well.
  2. Instead of shutting down Windows, instead Pause the VM then shut it down from VBox. This prevents whatever changed is being made that causes the problem.

How have you made out with any programming?

I’ve recoded a few things and cleared some codes. Haven’t had any issues.

Hey SC - I've been away from Rennlist for a while and just saw you bought the clone. Any issue with it overheating? This was mentioned many times on the boards but I've had no issues, hopefully they got the thermal issue fixed. After having it for a few months I'm pretty amazed at the capability, definitely worth the money assuming it holds up.

Nope. Never had any issues at all.

What exactly do you mean by programming 20 modules? Just like coding a new value in after swapping battery/injectors etc?

why do you need a 55A charger to program? I have a 10A charger is that not sufficient? I have a bigger H8 AGM battery and with a 10A charger I feel like it could maintain voltage for a long time without the engine running...

Does writing to the ecu really take that long? I have tuned/programmed BMWs tons of times without it even connected to a charger.

Oh also have you used these piwis clones for a 991? I can't find much on the 991 forum about people actually using these

Thank you for this great thread! I’ve been interested in getting a PIWIS 2 clone for some time but thought the process sounded daunting. You have inspired me to move forward and try this!

I’m going to use my old MacBook Pro laptop running OS X 10.11 (El Capitan). I have Parallels Desktop 10 installed already as virtualization software and it runs Windows 7. Will Parallels work for virtualization? I read a post saying the .ova file won’t run in Parallels? Anybody have experience with this set-up?

If I can successfully get the software working I’ll invest in the hardware.

Many thanks in advance?
