For those of you who don't know yet: There is a secret factory settings menu (similar to a BIOS on a PC) on the unit. You can access is by selecting "settings" -> "car settings" -> "factory reset" or "factory setting"
A password prompt should pop up. Password is 126

Here you can tell the HU which hardware components are built in, which FM area you are in, DX threshold signal strength, which CAN-Bus type you have, etc.
On my unit the can bus setting was set to "SWC" which is the retrofit steering wheel control adaptor. I had to set mine to CAN-BUS instead, since I wanted the HU to respond to my MF steering wheel *****.

Funny feature: If you enter LOGCAN instead of 126 you get a CAN-BUS message logger. You will see many "keep alive" telegrams running through, however you can also see the specific telegrams seen by the CAN-BUS module if you trigger some action in your car, e.g. press MF steering wheel buttons.
Good to reverse engineer what the HU CAN-BUS adaptor "sees" in the car at all.

@bleedingedge:

Sorry, my mistake. I have just checked my photos and mine are yellow and black (not blue - sorry). I assumed the yellow was GPS (slightly more central in unit) and attached the black to the aerial. You would think that GPS and FM reception would be the same worldwide but perhaps there are slightly different systems in different countries.

No idea what the third (‘curry’) one is though. We only have 2 fakra inputs in the UK.

I don’t have a reversing camera either but don’t get a black screen. This is a setting in the menu somewhere. I am not in the car right now so cannot remember where I saw it but it is an option on mine.

The option I can’t find is to tell it I have an iPod connected not a USB stick. I have seen a video of this in an earlier version but cannot find it now. If anybody has any bright ideas I’d be glad to hear.

Richard

In FAKRA standard there normally is no "yellow". The "Curry" colored FAKRA looks yellow thought.
There is different versions of connectors depending on the options ordered:

Curry, black and blue = PCM with Navigation system (Curry = diversity control, blue = gps, Black = Antenna via diversity controller)
Curry and black = PCM without Navigation enabled, so no blue GPS plug.
White (AM/FM with phantom power from HU) or black (No diversity no phantom power) = FM without antenna diversity and CDR23

AFAIK this was the options.

Interesting. I have factory Nav & CD but only the black and yellow/curry wires. No blue. I have factory telephone as well but cannot see how that would affect these colours.

Telephone Antenna is connected to the Telephone Conrol Module, not inside PCM.
Strange...Nav without GPS Antenna... :-)

'tis true... and however rubbish it was, the Nav did work.

On a separate note, does anybody know how to work out which hardware is installed inside the android unit? The bluetooth is a bit hit and miss and I have the choice of a dozen bluetooth units in the menu, just wondering whether it is using the right converter? Short of opening the box, which would invalidate any warrantee, to look at the board, I cannot find the exact spec easily.

Then you had the external DVD Nav module: 997 987 955 957 in the trunk. The blue FAKRA goes in there.

Now you mention it, yes it did. Full marks - top of class.

Glad I didn't buy an adaptor for the yellow Fakra so I could use the in-car 'GPS' - that would've had me stumped!

I connected the cables to the same colour and I still don’t have sound.

I connected everything to the same colour. Still O have no sound. Any suggestions?

Because you left the other side of the wire which you cut unconnected.
I had sent you my mobile number in a private message. Call me, as otherwise this will end in a disaster.
It also looks on the photos (not sure though) like you cut the OEM harness and not the HU's harness.

I may be tempted to suggest to ask a professional company to install the equipment to avoid further issues as otherwise you may destroy more than you fix.

Cayman987, where are you?

UK I’m guessing, or an insomniac in the USA?

i would check the splice connectors if I were you. I have not used them for years because they often do not cut through the plastic of the wires.

You have also spliced the MOST red ‘Acc’ to a red wire. I do not know if that is correct. I spliced mine to the Blue 12v coming out of the HU with the aerial. I did it by inserting a Y-piece with bullet connectors. I used red wire because... well because:

Amazing you want to help me! I was allready trying for 3 days. It would be awesome if there was a manual. Maybe we take some good pictures today. In the end it’s not as hard (that’s what I keep telling myself 😂&#128514 as you know what to do.
