Edomund please just leave this thread. Jake, Charles and Baz have gone above and beyond what they should have in both answers and patience. You are pushing them away from wanting to be here and everyone on the forum would suffer if that happened.

Word. I’ve got a 997.1 which has an engine with supposedly waaay more potential issues than the .2 engine, and yet I’m not all worked up about all this. It’s actually depressing coming to this site each day seeing an Engine Failure thread up top. If it worries you so much, just buy a 3rd party warranty (I did) and enjoy driving the car as it is intended!

Useful information?
For those that may not be aware of this, there is a feature in the Profile/User CP area that will allow you to add someone to your 'ignore' list so you do not have to see their posts unless you intentionally click on it.
Ive found it very useful on the Taycan forum

I don't have a dog in the fight and don't care who's "right", but to me, putting someone on the ignore list is the Liberal / Democrat way out.
Ignoring someone else "view", even IF they may be "RIGHT / CORRECT".
If you don't like what someone has to say / type...Just simply don't read their post, but trying to recruit others to not see another's Opinion, when they may have a a good point, isn't the best way. IMHO.ut
That's why the country (US) is so divided now. Nobody wants to fix problems, just fight about them.

I did not know that. I use the equivalent on FB and my blood pressure is way better now.

Well this has soured. I'm disappointed to jump back into this thread to see what looks like the 3 most qualified people to advise on this issue, being berated by people left, right and centre.
This is what these guys do, day in, and day out and take time out of their week to help our community, globally. I reckon they've got a rough idea of what they're doing. Probably says a lot that getting work done by any of them has long lead times.
For all those looking for answers, I'm sure somewhere in here lies the answer.
Be careful to not night the hand that feeds you as we may end up losing valuable knowledge moving forward
Just my 2 cents

On a positive note and getting back to the OP, I’m really excited to wonder when Bronz will get his ride back and give feedback on the new ride experience.
I have seen some Flat6 pics on FB of recent build progress (which am very grateful to have visibility to) and wonder if those are his, though have held off on commenting there to not pry.
Edited...I just read back and saw it is looking like August delivery for Bronz.
I still felt the need to insert some positivity where it is needed....

Just me but if I had an issue with my car that I suspected required your toolbox and knowledge, I would contact you in person to discuss rather than wasting your time on the forum. Anything engine related brought up here tends to snowball which I don't need to tell you. All said, I think you've been very patient.

Getting back to the topic of interest (the causes of 9A1 Gen 2 bore damage) we were only involved in the last couple of years (previously not heard of problems with this model) but what we found in the UK (and from Germany) was a consistent and easy to diagnose issue pointing only in one direction - to a fault that I would normally expect to take a lot of heat cycles (i.e. many days/years usage) to promote and therefore only after several years of casting stress relief shrinking the bores in the thrust direction onto pistons with less initial clearance and even less at the sides of the skirts where our evidence showed seizing.
With this model only a couple of years old (at most) in 2011 the subsequent posts claiming this damage has been seen since then did not fit this scenario and neither did the implications of different causes fit with our experiences - se we wanted to clarify if there had been two or more failure modes - or just the same and this is why I asked to see pictures of both sides of the pistons and bores - which for reasons Jake has now explained (he didn't have to or want to) didn't materialise.
I tried to defuse any discord between specialists by accepting differences that could account for these discrepancies.
I sent valuable and hard earned files of various piston profiles, bore measurements and comparisons to Jake without response.
I have now sent these to Charles who has promised a response.
With very small numbers failing our analysis never the less enabled us to provide some valuable advice that might extend owners engine life through longer warming up periods - this of course diminishing the numbers we might get to repair - so no vested interests from us there.
In a few short weeks our report on the whole subject covering models from M96/7 to Gen 2 will be on our web site but before that I will soon provide on here an E-mail address for interested readers to request a private early copy via E-mail that will include some video.
I applaud Jake for doing something about the change in public acceptance of video as the new medium for technical information - unfortunately my report is a read only and will be long - don't request it if you don't like reading.
We must modernise our approach to this too but that will take time although I do think that if video is to become the new communicating tool and the only medium that the public access and take note of - it is important that the information provided via it is valid and accurate.
Those interested in receiving our report need to stay looking on this topic for about 3 weeks to receive the E-mail address - and meanwhile I do not intend to add any more and hope that it can get back to more serious and valuable responses about the issue and not widely different objectives.

I got sidetracked in the office yesterday (which happens a lot) and I completely forgot to take the picture of the piston. I'll grab that Monday. I no longer live across the street, so it's not a matter of walking over anymore. It's over an hour drive.
As far as the block, I'll have to see if we took any pictures of the bore from both sides, and at any rate, if we didn't, the block has already been machined and is off for plating, so I wont' be able to produce those.
I too am planning several newsletters explaining this topic and several other related ones, with summaries of the research I've been carrying out over the last few months, to those who subscribe to LN's newsletters. And I promise, product promotion emails are far and few between, and content is mostly educational.
