Sounds like you did very well.. A nice, documented, and well maintained car at a very fair price + local to boot. Can't beat that. Glad you jumped on it.
I agree, the condition of these cars is all over the place, some are very nice and well maintained. Others, time has been a little unkind to.
I don't think you will regret it, these are awesome cars!!
Thank you. I've had it about a month now and still can't believe how fortunate I am with this one. So far 100% no regrets! I cannot believe how much car these are for the money. Hands down one of the best performance values out there. I've had faster cars, but this one is so balanced, civil, usable.. I can go on and on about how brilliant this machine is, but you obviously already know

me? i took my 2nd one after a 5 min drive and nothing else but know the seller and the shop that did all the work. so i also, have been "lucky"! in the last 6 yrs of ownership of THIS one.
but YOU scored buddy! enjoy!
Thank you! Glad you got lucky on yours as well! I've been down the buy a car without fully vetting it route before and lost a big chunk in repairs and getting it up to speed. I knew a 996 Turbo was what I wanted and did hours upon hours of homework before ever looking at ads. I also know this car is going to have to hold up for a while for me as my wife has been getting annoyed with my car addiction. Thanks again!

I 100% agree with this. I wouldn't base my experience as being typical with a low priced car... I was willing to spend over $10k more than I did, but I felt so comfortable with this car given its records and how well kept it is that I took a gamble on going with a slightly higher mileage example. As time goes on, I predict the well documented cars value will hold up much better than the cars that bounce around and are missing pieces of their history. That said, I didn't buy this as an investment and no one should. I bought it for the driving experience, the thrill and love for the 911 turbo
I was referring to the 911 with the engine out and the collision damage but do overall believe its worth the extra 10k to buy a lower mileage example= small potatoes in a car purchase. I know others feel differently and that's fine. Wanted to add only an idiot or someone with a real handle on car futures buys as an investment.
Nice looking silver over black, 73k miles, 6 speed, sport seats, double DIN stereo, carbon fiber, on eBay with $37k "buy it now" price or best offer. Located in San Fran. Someone there might want to do a Rennfax and post it. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-911-...m=281905757019
Looks like a nice clean car at a fair asking price.
It's 5 miles from me if anyone needs a quick eyeball on the car. This specialty dealer tends to sell clean cars, "Third Reef" just bought a nice X50 from them...
^ seanl - I'm obviously not in the market, but I think it would be appreciated by those who are if you stopped by to take a look and posted your findings on here. Assuming that it's not an inconvenience, I'm sure someone would find the info valuable. Plus, it would be good to have some more data (and objective data not from an owner) about cars on the lower end of the price spectrum.
I just wish there were more cars in the KC area that I could go "Rennfax" for someone. I don't want to waste a seller's time taking a test drive, but if I know people are interested in the car, that's helping the seller by passing info. In the case of this thread, I get PMs on a regular basis from people who are watching this thread constantly as a part of their shopping/searching regimen. At present, nearly 15,000 views for a thread that's only a few months old - I would think a seller would love to have a positive report on the condition of the car posted in here.
They also have a 60K mile seal gray '02 for sale with a Buy Now at $45,700...

So a difference of 12-13K miles is equating to $8700 at asking prices...one of the cars is a better value ?!?
Some jerk off hit the buy it now button AND the confirm button then said he did it on accident. So I am working with eBay to relist it. I hate selling cars...

In other words his wife/mother got wise before he could spend their money
Sorry man, that sucks. I love the color combo you've done. GLWS.

OK, I stopped by on my way home from downtown and laid eyeballs on this one, as well as their 60K mile seal gray '02.
Overall pretty clean. Tons of options on the frunk sticker.
Interior-a bit of bolster wear on the driver's sports seat, but nothing I couldn't live with. Some light cracking in the carbon fiber trim (arm rests). Definitely doesn't look 'lived in' or rough at all. No weird smells. Windows appear to be tinted.
-Exterior: a few door dings, the rear tailights starting to crack on top, some light paint cracking/crazing on the front bumper, front lip needs to be replaced. Some light clouding to the paint on the hood. Porsche emblem appears to possibly have been re-attached, as it is a bit off center with some doublesided tape showing. The headlights very clear, almost as good as mine (which were covered by clearbra for most of their life). No major scratches.
-Wheels: appear to be GT3 style, no way of knowing if they're real...some discoloration on a few of the spokes. Tires are Hankook Ventus V12s from 2011.
-Engine Compartment-overall stock appearing, but has red diverter valve hoses and upgraded diverters. Very new looking stainless exhaust, it looks very much like my Kline 2.5, so if it's not Kline it's something similar. They also have the stock exhaust. No idea if it's been tuned.
-GT2 style Rear Spoiler has moderate to severe paint fading, but overall no scratches or damage.
Overall car shows pretty well. They are working a deal on it, and are looking for very close to asking price (consignment car).
