Fascinating.

The "right buyer" for that car is a pretty narrow target.

On the other hand, anything over about 60k miles is considered "high miles" and many buyers won't consider such a car. So, I'm definitely interested in knowing what it's like to drive/live with a truly high mileage car.

60k miles for a 15 yr old car is LOW. You're in the minority here on Rennlist as there is life outside it.

Hey all, this just popped up in Chicago. 2004 996.2 Six Speed Sunroof Coupe, 124K, Silver / Black, it looks clean and shiny.

I don't know anything more than what's in the ad, but it looks and reads like it's a pretty nice Porsche for $15,900.

Maybe, but it ain't a Turbo. Doesn't quite belong here (although I guess you could say that about me, too).

Not yet. I sent him the bill of sale and he's instructed the wire on Friday, so I probably will send over title on Monday. Pick up might have to wait a week or two while he arranges transport to out West.

Default Thoughts?

ripped seats and over buffed paint, but seems like a decent price.

2 years ago, I agreed with you. But then I was informed that "low mileage" is 30k or under when it comes to the 996tt. 80k or more is definitely considered "high mileage". I bought mine in September of 2015 thinking it was low mileage at 47k miles, but apparently 50k miles is considered "average miles". To clarify, that's not my mindset, rather the mindset of 996tt buyers (which is what counts).

Also, when I was shopping for mine (March to September 2015), I was definitely including cars with 100k+ miles. Personally, I don't value low mileage much because I like to actually drive my cars. And many of the maintenance requirements on these cars are due as much to age as they are mileage. The '99 996 C4 Aerokit I sold in March 2015 had 148k miles on it, but it looked great and drove perfectly. "High mileage" cars, especially those in the 95k to 120k mileage range, are a fantastic bargain as they still have a ton of life left in them yet the market value drop off at (or near) 100k miles is huge. One of the few things I don't like about my current car is that it has only 57k miles on it now - I don't drive it nearly as much as my '99 996 because I have odometer angst (which I absolutely hate).

Probably belongs in "The Prestige Thread" rather than here. But, that's not a horrible asking price, especially this time of the year (it's currently the height of the seller's market).
