I think a lot of people would be interested in following a thread on your new car, nelsontod. There is a lot of discussion in here on the plusses and minuses of buying low versus high mileage cars. This is a model that pretty much everyone agrees has a very robust engine and tranny. On the other hand, anything over about 60k miles is considered "high miles" and many buyers won't consider such a car. So, I'm definitely interested in knowing what it's like to drive/live with a truly high mileage car.

No, I think right here in the 996 Turbo forum. If you wanted to do a sister post over on 996outpost.com, I'm sure they'd appreciate it as well. As for title, I think something along the lines of "Living with a High Mileage 996TT", so that future searchers can find it easily. My prediction is that the engine & tranny aren't going to give you any serious problem anytime soon. What probably will be a little higher in maintenance will be the peripherals - wheel bearings, half-shafts, alternator, etc. But, I think a lot of those things will age out even on a low-mileage car. But, I'm just guessing. Macster had a high-mileage 996TT. I can't remember exactly how many miles, but I think around the same as yours. He was getting frustrated with maintenance, but then again, he always had the dealership service it, so that makes it more $$. On the other hand, I believe he sold his for around $29k. Bottom line, I'm really interested to see how it goes for you. A lot of these cars are hitting the 100k miles mark now simply due to age. My car is now 16 years old, and although it's only got 57k miles on it, the average 16 year old car would have hit 100k miles by now by only averaging 6,250 miles per year. That's not exactly driving the wheels off of a car.
