did a little track support for my buddies' drag cars, good cruise to track and back (I should've been on the roadcourse though, lol)

Glad you are enjoying the G body!
The Lotus is new for a buddy that also has a 996 Turbo, though not on Rennlist... He loves his Turbo, its out of commission right now and just picked up the Evora GT. i've driven an Evora 400 and really enjoyed it. Very connected drivers car at a decent price point.

On the G-body, I've driven plenty of other air cooleds and also owned a few non-Turbos, but honestly for me they just don't light up the neurons the way Turbos do.

Back in the day, I had access to a turbo g body on a semi regular basis. The first time I drove it, I was going around a corner, fairly slowly, lifted mid corner, and the car did a 180 instantly. Scared the you know what out of me.

The second time I drove it, something similar happened, but this time, the moment I realized I was slipping, I added power, the car came back, and I was hooked.

Once I had a good understanding of that chassis behavior, it became one of the most enjoyable cars I have ever driven.

I'd like to try one of those Loti, they look very entertaining.

This morning, it was a little cooler and the car had been on charge overnight, it was registering 13.1v, and it seemed to stay there over a 20k drive and one shutdown/start up.

Is this inconsistency the VR failing, or are the brushes on the original alternator packing it in?

Cheers,
So yesterday, it was back up to 13.3v. Has anyone experienced some thing like this before? Every time an alternator has gone dead on me, it doesn't suddenly increase its output.

Bet that'll be better in direct sunlight than the aluminum Rennline one...

Your voltage regulator is malfunctioning and will eventually die.

I was wondering that, but I have recently replaced it... Bosch too.

Will replace again, thank you.

Being "Made by Bosch" doesn't mean what it used to mean.

Yes, that is starting to become very apparent - the first VR made it 15 years without issue, now this one is on its way out in less than three.

We had the same issue with my alternator last week at the track. Good charging voltage when cold and down to 12.4V when hot. We ordered a new OEM alternator yesterday scheduled to arrive today.
