So, a little bit of a set back...

When I was speaking with Marek (Markski) the other day, he advised that the the installation of his bendable intake, if the engine remained in the car throughout, would require that the factory intake would have to be cut out in order to be removed. Well, I lifted the car up today and can confirm there is no way to remove the OEM intake in one piece without removing the engine from the car. I am not prepared to butcher the factory intake through this process, so the engine will need to be dropped (again) in order to facilitate the installation of the 980s.

As I did not plan on another engine drop this season, the 980s will not go on until next season.

A bit of a **** off, but I do want to keep all the factory pieces intact, so not a lot that can be done here.

But, I have a question....

Even though Kline (and Sam) were kind enough to produce a 90mm cat piece for the 980s, can I still install the Kline with the 90mm hot pipe, even if the OEM turbos will require a 75mm pipe? I really want to make at least a little progress this year, so the installation of the Kline will bring a little happiness. The flanges look identical, save for a 15mm id difference - going the other way will most certainly introduce surge, but can I get away with using a 90mm turbo flange on the K24s without issue?

Cheers,

Let me see if I have any extra factory intake so you can just cut yours out. But I do agree you can just use the original for now and we can take it easy so we don’t put too much strain on the system until. As for the exhaust, you can absolutely install it. No problem at all.

hey 993Gat! Been a while I hope you’re well. That’s really cool of you to offer.

Both John and Marek have indicated it will necessary, I suspect there is some restriction after having a closer look at it.

Thanks Sam, the issue for me is that I don't want to butcher anything while it is attached to the car - I can just see it, and hear the the comments, 'Well Andrew, what did you expect when starting cutting in a confined space with a Sawz All...?'

Happy that the exhaust will work with the K24s, that may be enough to carry me over...

You can run the 980s with the OEM intake. Just have Sam give you a lower HP map, maybe 1.0 bar. No problem at all. You will have an intake restriction but that won't hurt anything at 500-550whp.

Thanks for chiming in John, will the turbos be running efficiently at that pressure?

Yeah, you’ll be fine. The turbo’s are actually extremely efficient. It’ll be OK with the inlets until later.

Efficiency is a relative term. How efficient do you wanna be? If you are seeking max efficiency you would also need to significantly open up the exhaust. For street use, none of this really matters for the most part especially at moderate 550-600whp levels.

BTW, cutting out the OEM pipes with the engine lowers 3" is very simple. The OEM pipes are worthless. For anyone moderately handy with these cars, it's an easy DIY.

Efficiently in the sense of good response with minimal lag; I gathered from your post above, 1.2/3 bar was the happy spot for them.

I keep all the parts I remove from the car, I just don't want to chop anything up.

In other news...

Cannot, for the life of me, figure this out... I cut all the sensors off and soldered the ends together, finished it up with some heat shrink.

Porsche Sorcery, I say...
