The 944 platform is quirky in a few areas. And if you can’t do much of the work yourself, you’ll go broke fixing the mistakes of others. The two biggest concerns I have with them are rod bearings and the timing belt. Once the belt goes, you bend valves. I went to competition/race school a couple years ago, and passed, even came in 3rd during my first race with the group. I brought the car home and backed it out of the trailer and the timing belt broke, bending valves in multiple cylinders. $4K later the car was running again. It was a good lesson. If you buy one, regardless the year, and the seller doesn’t have the paperwork to prove the belt was done, buy one and plan to do it or plan to pay someone to do it. Expensive lesson.

They are great cars in both street/HPDE/and Racing trim. Mine went from 2800+ pounds down to 2285# in super touring 6 trim.

First mod!!! It was a difficult mod but thanks to the wealth of technical information/articles on this forum I was able to get through it. Over the weekend, I was able to replace temp tag with new registered tag. Due to intensity- no pics of modification work. Thanks to all that have contributed!!

So I decided to do European spec side markers. Decided to try the cheap ones on Amazon:

Many reviews said they were crap and not easy to install. Well, I found the plastic to be a bit cheap compared to OEM. And they didn't have that small rubber piece used as a drain on the originals. But if you used a long screwdriver to push the clip in, it was less then a 5 minute job for both sides.

But I can't complain about how they look, especially on the Meridian Metallic paint job.

I installed the same markers on my car 10+ years ago. They have held up perfectly. Still look brand new. I think they match the look of the headlights much better than OEM.

The one thing I did was drill a tiny hole in the recess on the underside of the housing to act as a vent for condensation.

I swapped my side markers with OEM clear side markers the day I picked up my 996 Turbo (new.) They are still on the car, without any issues now for over 18 years.
