I had a really sh*tty day at wok on Wednesday (healthcare, kinda depressing at the moment), so I was glad to get home and see the kids playing outside. I enjoyed some time with them, but was still a little down from the day. My son had been driving around in his red GT3 from Toys R Us with a big smile on his face, so I decided that I would start up the 996T (only one T to appease Dock). By the time I decided to start it up, my son had gone back inside, but he came running out when he heard that intoxicating exhaust note (proud father moment!) It's still in winter hibernation mode in Michigan - actually had a snow/hail mix yesterday for a few minutes - so when he came out he said "Dad, I knew I heard the 911...are we going for the first drive of the season?" (second proud father moment) Unfortunately, I had to explain to him about winter insurance and registration, and that the first drive is still a few weeks away. But oh that glorious sound! Five minutes of that Porsche exhaust note soothed my soul, even though it's still the stock exhaust!

Which brings me to my next thought - I really wish some of you would stop tempting me with all these stories of new exhausts! I'd love to take the leap, but I've spent all my "car fund" money for quite a while (just acquired a 2018 Macan GTS in January). I'm sure I'll do it one day, but until then I'm still in love with the car that brings all of us together. Thank you all for your posts that keep those of us in winter climates salivating all year round!

How does this work? Do you do this manually or is it set dates with your insurance company?

I just call up the insurance company (State Farm) and say set it to winter insurance or set it to summer insurance, so it's fully manual (just like our cars should be). They even allow me to flip it over for a weekend if a nice one pops up (not that it ever does).
I pay about $200 per 6 months for the winter coverage and $1,100 per 6 months for the summer coverage.

I had some problems with getting into third smoothly on track days as well... usually only when also a bit of lateral G as well. Adjusting the cables did nothing. 964 RS motor mounts solved the problem and smoothed up street shifting as well (previous motor mounts were relatively fresh OEM).

I had backed down a steep driveway and scraped the bottom of my exhaust tips - you couldn’t really see it but I knew it was there and it drove me crazy. Bought a set of black chrome tips from another member here and finally got them on today. I like the look with the seal gray - I have black GT3 wheels as well and the new tips kinda pull it together.

Old ones with scrapes on bottom

Old tips - left one was not aligned correctly

Old tip

New black chrome tips

Different angle of new tips

Installed before aligning

All done

Nice tips. I like the black chrome.

My custom set of 304 sst dual tips I made turned wheat straw temper colors from heat while driving. Considering having them black chromed.

I already have the 964 RS motor mounts. My shift issue was on the front straight at Laguna Seca, no side Gs there.

Are they oem tips that have been black-chromed or aftermarket tips?

Also called storage mode. I do the same thing in the winter to several vehicles. Saves a lot of money, and a quick easy phone call to initiate/reverse.

continued with the stereo install... ran the wire for the rear view camera... god it was a pain in the @$$... surprised how much foam insulation there is in the back seat... guess that's what keeps noise and comfort level...

Thanks for the comments about the tips - I don’t know if they are OEM or not but I don’t recall seeing any part numbers on them. I bought them from another guy on here and the timing was right since I had just scraped mine up. I’m guessing I could take my old ones to a powder coating shop and have them redone as well.

Dock - good question - I see my old ones were pointing straighter and these are angled a bit - that is likely user error as I was wrestling with them to get them on as far as I could. I think I can straighten them out fairly easily - now I have a Saturday chore. 😜

As far as my plate - I’ve had that for 20 years on a variety of cars. Remember the David Spade flight attendant skit on SNL?
