UMW WG actuators arrived yesterday. In they went, out for a nice boost adaptation drive today. Running strong, I need to re-start the pressure testing now that the initial problem is solved.

It was not a NNJR person, it was the tech inspector for the PBOC Race group. He lived in Daytona and was coming across the state last Wednesday and was hit head on by a car that crossed the median. At the drivers meeting on Friday and Saturday morning we took up a collection for his widow and raised about $2,000 which the leadership of PBOC decided to match so a $4,000 check from the group will be sent to her this week. It is certainly no replacement for her loss, but hopefully it can help with any funeral expenses or other items in the near term. It was nice to see the generosity of the drivers and of PBOC.

This is what happened to my car today...

2003 with 38k miles. I started feeling a rotational pulse this morning on a steady throttle at 30mph with my accelerator foot.
It steadied out at 50mph and I couldn't feel anything.
I was on highway at 70, then it started to get VERY rough. I immediately stopped to the side and had car towed to my mechanic.

Front diff blown. Need a new one.

best time to give rwd a shot, if you dont like it can get a new/used front diff.

Also my clutch started slipping today

After 5k miles on umw 2a with stock exhaust.
and 1k or so on 100 cell muffler delete.

My car is my daily driver in Chicago. I'd like to keep AWD as much as possible.

The front diff isn't necessarily blown. It looks like the output flange popped out for some reason. Could be a worn C-clip or something minor. I've seen it happen before on AWD 996s and everything was just fine after putting it back together and changing the fluid.

In other news, I finally got to take my wife for a spin in my car with the new Markski tune. She was pretty impressed with the launch control.

It's basically a speed-based two-step rev limiter. When the car is not moving (or technically, moving less than 1.5 miles per hour) the rev limit is 4200rpm. So, I can sit there with the gas pedal pegged to the floor and the engine will bounce off the rev limiter at 4200rpm, so I can focus on other things besides modulating the engine speed. This also builds a bit of boost as well (around .2 bar). Then, you dump/feather the clutch and off you go. Once you start moving, the rev limiter returns to the standard value (which is also raised a bit on my car).

This isn't a Marski tuned car, but here's a 996 with launch control.

Is that in the tune itself, or some other piggy back?

Cool! I had a friend with an EG Civic Hatchback and a B18C turbo motor swapped in that had similar ecu programming. His allowed him to build boost up to about 10psi in 1st gear, 14psi in 2nd and from there it went to 25psi in 3rd through 5th. The engine made about 550hp at the wheels and went 10.5 in the 1/4 mile on drag slicks, it was quite the sleeper from the outside as well.

I will say though, the sound it made sitting on the line before he dumped the clutch in 1st always made me wonder how that engine ever held up to the (perceived) abuse...

It's part of the tune itself. The tune also allows for brake boosting, which is kind of the same thing, but for when you're already moving. Normally, if you have the brake and the accelerator pushed at the same time, the ECU "ignores" the inputs from the gas pedal and the brake pedal wins. With brake boosting I can downshift into, say, 3rd gear and then give the car some throttle while also holding down the brake pedal a bit. Doing this puts the engine under load, which causes the turbos to build boost. Then when I let go of the brake the car "slingshots".
