Drove mine for the first time since September. Remembered why I bought it.
Also remembered why I brought my phone. Nav systems have come a long way since 2004...
Drove PCH to Malibu. On the way back, someone with a brand-new-to-him 991 Targa wanted to race. I noted the decklid said 911 Carrera. Nothing special, I thought, but looking it up, the standard 991.2 does 0-60 a tenth of a second quicker than is claimed on a 996 Turbo. The minor mods on my car probably don't offset the 110K miles of wear, and the 5 speeds of the Tip aren't a match for a 7-speed PDK. So I'll watch out for street challenges in future (and in heavy traffic on PCH, TargaBoy just made an *** of himself as I ignored his efforts to provoke me to hit the loud pedal)
many people die annually on pch as you know. worse even since the fires and road work up here. best to not go over 50. ever.
Good question and I asked this earlier as I was learning about the setup. The space for the fuel tank requires a certain shape or massive amounts of cutting to the body and re-welding for a universal rectangle fuel cell. I also have the electric cup steering in the frunk and will be adding in air jacks in the future or at the same time if budget allows. Here's an example of the space limitations in the 996 with a similar fuel cell and air jacks (power steering is missing from this pic):
Interesting. I'm surprised that there isn't a rectangular fuel cell that could fit in the frunk (without air jacks), but air jacks in that location clearly nix the idea. I also would be hesitant to cut/weld the body a lot as you mentioned, and would probably just opt for the more expensive option as you have. Very nice!
Put on lamni-x film on the headlights. Got the "tint" version to take the edge off the chrome reflection. I am happy with the asthetic results, thunderstorms today so no feedback on the headlights output penalty.
Replaced drivers side rocker trim piece, found and solved clunk on passenger front (torqued swaybar endlink), installed a new serpentine belt and installed an EvoMS intake.
Patiently awaiting analysis/health check and tune from Kevin. Moving from FVD, looking forward to it.
I haven’t said this yet but I just went through this. Car had an unknown tune when I purchased it, which is not ideal as I want to know what is controlling my engine.
I ordered the tune and data logging option from Kevin/UMW and went though the process of performing a health check and then tweaking it properly with him. I’m very pleased with the results as well as Kevin’s knowledge and responses. It does seem to pull harder than the other tune and from what I can tell with my limited knowledge from looking at the excel spreadsheets, it’s doing it safely. I do need to get a 90/91 octane tune for those times when I travel and 93 is not available though. Kevin FTW!!
